Could OG Simmons be yet another steal?

One heck of a great story should this guy overcome his handicap and make it in the NFL. Me, I'm rooting for him.

Unofficial numbers:

Simmons measured in at 6-4 1/4, 315 pounds and ran the 40-yard dash between 5.19-5.26. He was timed at 4.75 in the short shuttle, 7.61 in the 3-cone and posted a 28" vertical jump and a 8-10" broad jump.

This is evidence that his clubfoot is not hindering him.

What is there to indicate he's more than a nice story?

Summary of 2009 season:

Saw action in all 14 games as a reserve … worked at both left and right guard … started in games against Chattanooga and TCU … led all reserve lineman with 50 knockdown blocks and 421 plays … had 10 knockdowns against TCU.

He is from Raleigh so I'm aware of the story, but he didn't go to high school here so don't have much on his football background (not even sure he played OL in high school). Seems to be a solid guy with a strong desire to succeed. Seems to have made positive impressions in his limited time at OU. Unless there is some physical reason that is holding him back, sounds like an ideal guy to give to Scar for some development.

What next?

Edward Scissorhands opposite Randy Moss?

Summary of 2009 season:

According to this site, that was his summary for '08.
SoonerSports.com - Official Site of the Oklahoma Sooners

For 09:
Oklahoma's starter at left guard before suffering an injury against Baylor ... missed five games before returning to the starting lineup vs. Texas Tech ... was OU's second-most experienced offensive lineman with 42 games played ... led the team with 14 knockdowns against Miami and 12 against Oklahoma State.

Could be a cool story. Surprised we haven't heard more on this. Will have to watch closely Thursday night.

they might want to rebreak his footto try to straighten it. Or maybe he'll just want to leave well enough alone.

Not that I know anything about this disability, but I would say since he has been preforming at a high level athletically into his early 20's, I would think they would just leave it alone at this point.

SSDD

It also depends upon just how severe the deformity is. If it's a mild case, and he's playing well with it, then it shouldn't require any treatment unless it's becoming worse, or affecting some other part of his leg, hip joint, etc.

Very cool, definitely a good underdog to root for. This has Hollywood written all over it, hahaha.

Clubfoot didn't seem to bother Troy Aikman.

Says in the article that they've broken his foot and tried to re-set it 16 times. Sounds like he's probably being left alone, but not for lack of trying.

My little guy was born with a clubfoot. His foot's doing great, but it's still encouraging to read about professional athletes who've had to deal with it.

Trust in Dante!!!

This kind of shortsightedness is exactly why I am suggesting he could be a steal. I am sure the majority of NFL scouts never gave him a thought.

Seriously: good point.

VERY good point.

Don't be an idiot.

Eddie would be much more effective as FullBack.

Clearing a path, as it were.

Bill Polian would find a way to make it be illegal.

;)
