Opinions, gentlemen? Detroit just released him.

God knows we've already got plenty of Ends who're good at Rushing and weak at Run Defense, but he intrigues me, just the same: This is a Special Teamer who finally broke in, last year, and finished the season with Sacks in each of Detroit's last 3 games.

Unlike Warren and Burgess, for instance, he's a young guy who's flashed some potential, seems to have some momentum, and has virtually NO miles on'm!!

I would LOVE to get this guy.

Even better: how do we feel about him as a possible Jack OLB?

The Packers cut him one year ago, when they were transitioning to the 3-4, so that obviously doesn't bode well...

However, he IS a young guy, and at his 2006 Pro Day, he rang up a 34.5 Vertical Leap ~ not bad, and the same as our own Rob Ninkovich, that year ~ and a 4.23 Short Shuttle, which was VERY fast: 4th among DE's that year, behind only Chris Gocong, Matthias Kiwanuka...and Ninkovich.

Why in the name of GOD do I bring those stats up?? :D

As an increasing number of us are becoming aware, FootBall OutSiders has forged a Metric, which they call SackSeer, which suggests that Pass Rush success at the NFL level has SOME level of predictability, based on their historical study of 4 things:

1 ~ Vertical Leap
2 ~ Short Shuttle Time
3 ~ Sack Productivity
4 ~ Health

***

And both our Hunter ~ he's 6'4", 270, by the way ~ and our own Rob Ninkovich had solid Leap numbers and EXCEPTIONAL Short Shuttle numbers.

I would LOVE to bring this guy in.

One wonders why he was cut then.......

Converting to a 3-4 ...another OLB conversion project? arghhhh :)

Jason Hunter: Game Logs

Quick stats from him in 2009 and what not. 6'4", 271 lbs. I guess it wouldn't hurt to throw him in as competition at OLB and DE for some reps in the Dime and situational downs. Had sacks against Washington, Minnesota, Chicago, San Fran, and Arizona last season.

That's an odd weight. Too small for 3-4 DE and unless he is VERY athletic too big for 3-4 OLB.

At 271lbs I'd say he isn't too far off. Wasn't Willie Mac 271lbs? And he was only an inch taller.
Sounds like this kid might be able to help us if nothing else provide good competition as was already suggested.

#4 should be games played. Which isn't only due to health and injury. One may have played fewer games because they weren't good enough as a freshman or sophomore. Which seems to be true for Jason. He does seem interesting though. He played with Murrell and they had similar stats as seniors.

That's true, of course: I was boiling it down to the quick and dirty summaries.

Cool!! :D

hopefully the Pats have scouts who peruse the board for our invaluable input :D
