Torry Holt Placed on Season-Ending Injured Reserve, Tom Brady Practices Without Tape - New England Patriots - NESN.com

I didn't have him making the final roster anyways, so I'm not really surprised by the news, and it doesn't worry me very much. Being in his mid-30s, it strikes me that this wouldn't be a "stashing" move, since if he could play there would be a lot more reason to just cut him and give him a chance to sign somewhere else or leave open the possibility of re-signing him in the event of injuries. Must be a legit season-ending injury, I'd guess.

Well at least it gives some of the younger guys a better chance at making the roster?

My guess is that Thomas Williams now has a good chance at a roster spot. BTW, that was the guess by Reiss a couple of days ago (Williams on the roster, Holt not on the roster).

Tough break for Holt. Here's to a speedy recovery for him and some semblance of a career after he gets healthy...

Damn that sucks. At the least would have given us good depth somewhere we need it. If Tate goes down at any point now we could have the same wideout problems that hurt us last year, unless Price really suprises this year.

JC, Thank god Buddy Farnam is back. :D

Well, if it's not a full-season recovery he could go the Larry Centers route and return late season (so says the optimist).

i really hope Leigh Bodden, and Jermaine Cunningham, are ok so far two of the guys that did not play in that game are on IR now

1. Moss
2. Welker
3. Tate
4. Edelman
5. Price

I hope Tate is ready to be the guy opposite of Moss. The 4 WR sets will be nice to see with Wes/Edelman on the field at the same time. 1 more WR injury and I will start getting nervous.

I didn't think he was going to make the team anyway. I hope this isn't the end of his career though.

IR = you CANNOT return. Period.

Bring back Farnham!

he's already back....

damn it...more bad injury news.

Oh nuts.

Lets hope Wes is ready to rawk on week 1. If not thats a WR corps with very little experience

Yes you can, ala Larry Centers a few years ago:
1) Go on IR
2) Reach injury settlement with team, get released
3) Re-sign with team on active duty.

It just means that you are a free agent and open to sign with anyone after step #2. That's why it doesn't happen very often--a team would never do it with someone they wanted to keep in future years. But since Holt is an aged vet on a one-year deal it might make sense. Of course all this is predicated upon the injury being of the 2-3 month variety.

Extremely intriguing scenario

4. Edelman

There are plenty of positions that I'd be more concerned with 1 more injury than WR. Let's see: DL, OL, LB, QB, the list goes on. Along with S, it's probably our deepest position. We never want to see injuries, but the team will weather Holt's absence just fine. Here's to a speedy recovery for his sake. Somebody with his resume should be in a position to choose when he retires, like Patten did.
