Who is the odd man out at OLB?

If there was an option for "no idea, but it'll be interesting to see the competition unfold over the next couple weeks", I'd go with that. If I had to pick one right now, I'd probably go with Ninkovich, but I have no real confidence in that pick. Have to see more of all three of them.

Obviously, we all need to see more to make a more informed choice. We are making our best guesses, as of now.

I know, but even in 'best guess' terms, I still have no idea. Any projection is best guess, but for this one we're going on virtually nothing.

I think that either Woods or Murrell will be cut.
While whichever one makes the team will mostly be contributing on s/ts it may still come down to which is better on D, because I dont think there is a big difference in them as sters.
If I have to chose today, I say Woods in Murrell out, because it seems Woods is a better base D run defender and Murrell is a better pass rusher, and with the others we would keep Woods skills would be more needed.

woods or ninkovitch - murrell makes it

Probably Murrell... it just seems like the guy is certain to stay of the new guys gets cut.

I'm saying Ninkovich, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

I'll bet you fifty bucks YOU don't make it, Nik....c'mon...wassamatta...scared???:scared:

Burgess has shown his heart isn't into it. He should be gone, but maybe BB and his irrational mancrush on all things "veteran" (remember trading picks for this guy as well as for duane "bust" stuarks) will keep him. God I hope not. Ninkovich showed promise and at least has a good heart, unlike Burgess.

I'd probably want to see Woods moved on. Doesn't do much at linebacker and I'm not so sure he's a special teams ace either.

I'm with BradyFTW. Voting now based on one pre-season game is silly. Everybody has good and bad games. Nink didn't do much, Woods looked improved, and Murrell may have had a carreer game for all I know. I need to see more.

Still, I'll vote notBurgess, because he could play DE in a pinch and be more serviceable than the others, and the DL is not looking deep right now. He also could pay the price for missing TC and find himself on IR for not getting into football shape by game time next week.

why would they put him on IR? That's waht he wants, to get paid for doing nothing. They'd just cut him. He's on a one year deal anyway, IIRC.

I think he gets cut. HE has a low ceiling and has already proven he isn't very good.

Maybe I was unclear. My concern is that he is not in football shape and gets truly injured and gets IR'd as a result. I assume they can't cut him just because he's hurt.

I disagree that he has a low ceiling. Players make a big jump in their second year, and that goes for learning the system for veterans, almost as much as getting up to NFL speeds for rookies. He came in late in pre-season last year, so I think we can get more out of him this year. If he develops the capacity to be a serviceable zone coverage backer, it won't be a forgone conclusion that he's rushing the QB, and that allows the defense to mix up their blitzes more effectively and, in turn, makes him a more effective rusher. (At least I hope so.)

Ninkovich is a just a stupid name to have on the back of a jersey. Nink? Ninky? What the hell? How many Ninkovich jerseys will they sell at Patriot Place? At least flamers from France will buy Pierre Woods jerseys because he was against the war in Iraq.

From what I saw of Murrell in camp (good) and given that he's sposed to be a ST stud, I'd say that Woods is in the most danger of not making it. Pierre has had several years to show he's a contender at OLB and hasn't, although he is having a good camp. If Woods makes the 53, it's Ninkovich who goes. All this is a STRONG function of the next several weeks' consistent performances, injuries aside.
