Holley: Ty Warren may be out for the year

This is exactly right and last night was a good example. Did anyone really notice Ty wasn't playing? I feel bad for any injured player, but in reality, all we want is some one that can occupy a blocker or two to let our LBs run free.

I thought the DLine played well last night, especially G. Warren, so we might not miss him too much.

Re: Holley: Ty Warren out for the year

It's a good thing we picked up Brace in the second round last year...

I wouldn't be so sure. We have no idea how G. Warren is going to hold up through an entire season, and how professional he is. The good news is that he hasn't missed a game the last two years.

This is not good news at all. Hopefully one of the new/and or young guys steps it up. Who knows, maybe this is the shot for Myron Pryor?

Richard, Deadrick, Weston et all, you'll never have a better opportunity to make a top club than now.

Won't replace Warren, but a big body has a good shot for some time at the run stopper position.

That's why I said might ;)

Given that there was a thread dedicated to what we were going to do about Marques Murrell being out for the season a couple of days ago, perhaps we should wait for some type of confirmation of Holley 'hearing that Ty got bad news'

Re: Holley: Ty Warren out for the year

I agree. By midseason, Warren and Lewis could be almost as effective as Warren and Green last year.

We can also hope that Pryor (our #5 las year and this) will improve a bit from 2009.

Finally, last year Wright shared a role as he moved outside to a new position for him. He did reasonably well. He also might improve some this year.

BOTTOM LINE
We lost a 1st round Warren, we gained a first round Warren. Let's move on! We won't lose games because we replaced Warren with Warren. I suspect that few will even notice the difference.

Could have been that his hamster died ;)

Holley seems pretty sure of himself today, he just said it again and said that Kazur is also out for the year. Again, no mention of a source...just that he heard.

Either way, this thread is more about exploring our options/depth at the DL...or at least I think it is.

does anyone know if schobel can play DE in a 3-4?

Maybe we can solve this by putting cunningham at OLB and signing schobel to replace Warren...wishful thinking i know.

Our defense was ok last year. I know they were ranked high but they couldn't seem to make plays when they needed to. Whether more of the blame should be put on the front end or the back end I don't know.

Either way. As much as I agree it sucks to loose a player to injury we have to wait and see what happens. Maybe one of these backups just needs time to shine. I know during the second game of the 2001 season I was thinking there goes the franchise.

Everything seemed to turn out ok though.

Maybe if he gained 70 lbs.

Re: Holley: Ty Warren out for the year

Aside from one play, the Ravens ran for 3.0 yards per carry in that game.
We did not lose because of the run D. We lost because of an ineffective offense and defending short fields.
Whoever they targetted they had one long run then a mediocre day rushing the ball.
Look, its terrible news that Warren is out, but trashing Mike Wright who played more snaps that any other DL on the roster last year for inaccurate reasons isn't necessary.
IF this is true we lost a starter, Warren and a backup, Green, from last year and replaced them with Warren and Lewis. That certainly may not be improvement but it certainly doesn't prevent us from winning football games.

they ravens still rushed for 234 yards against us. i'm not trashing mike wright either. i just view him more of a quality back up. we've basically lost seymour and warren from our DL over the past 2 seasons, two stalwarts that have been there for a long time. not sure how we are going to get around this one.

Was thinking along those lines, too.

I wonder if Al Davis would want a high first round pick for ****ie Seymour....:bricks:

Well this would be horrible news, if true. Here's to hoping Damione Lewis would be able to fill in admirably for him.

Not that big of a loss guys, and just another turning of the page from last year to this. Kaczur and Warren were part of the problem, not the solution.
