Nice read but I disagree...
New England Patriots: Predicting the 53-man roster - ESPN Boston

No Tyrone McKenzie there is no way he gets cut, coach had way too many good things to say about him to give up on him so soon, plus the fact that the TE have been seen lining up at FB where williams was at start of camp tells me that they are not quite as thrilled with his work there

Reiss' logic that we have to keep Bussey and Welch to keep other teams from claiming them so we cut McKenzie is dubious.
Mike hasnt paid attention to the fact that 5th-7th round players almost never get plucked off wavers at cutdown, and somehow thinks it would be better to have someone claim McKenzie.
Put me down in the camp that says we keep better players instead of guessing who someone else might want as thier 53rd guy.

Both are cutting Holt. I think they are wrong, but tonight may be a good clue on that one

Was very suprised to see McKenzie cut in Reiss' 53. I also think Holt will make the team, but its up for much more debate than McKenzie.

Reiss's is awful.

Welker has come back much faster, so you have two veterans, two 2nd-year, and one rookie, and one ST. I think that is a good balance. Moss, Welker and Tate will be default starters.

However on the other hand, I am not projecting Slater to make the roster, and Aiken is on the bubble and I think may be cut because Chung has been groomed in Aiken's positions on ST (personal protector, gunner).

For comparison, Glen Farley of the Quincy Patriot Ledger also gives us his roster projections: A look at how the Patriots? 53-man roster is going to shape up - Quincy, MA - The Patriot Ledger

On offense he has the Pats going with the same five RBs, and Aiken over Holt at WR. On the offensive line he left Mankins and Kaczur off, has Ohrnberger missing the cut, and Ghiaciuc, Larsen and Wendell all making the roster.

Farley leaves Brace out, citing the old adage "you can't make the club from the tub"; not sure if he sees him being cut or headed to IR. He has seven DL on the roster, including Lewis, Pryor, and Kade Weston. Farley has nine linebackers on the squad, including Woods and Williams, with Alexander being cut. In the secondary he has Arrington and Wilhite making the team with Wheatley being the odd man out.

Holt is going to be a touch and go from what I have seen, price looks good one day and not so great the next, never the less he and holt would be competing for the same playing time from what I have observed at camp. Slater has to go and with Chung stepping it up on teams I might even consider cutting ties with Aiken I know they are diff positions but I look at it more in roster spots.

Re: Mike Reiss and Mike Rodak predict how the Patriots roster will look come Septembe

I think McKenzie and Holt make the team. I think Slater starts on the injured list.

If we are able to reach an agreement with Mankins before the season starts I think we keep less offensive lineman.

The other side of that is:
Aging Moss
Recovering Welker
Welkers backup
2 guys with virtually no NFL experience (one who was injured in08 and 09)
A st that you dont want at WR.

I think the experience is important.
While I agree it can go either way, it worries me to think that behind Moss and Welker are 3 guys with a combined 12(guessing) games of NFL experience.

What do you mean 'start' on the injured list? IR is season ending.

Very surprised at McKenzie not making it...

Reiss's is awful.
As many here have said, he's a good reporter, but a lousy clairvoyant. His predictions are almost always wrong. He should stop embarrassing himself

For the 1000th time, Reiss never embarrasses himself. He always states that his projections are "his guesses" and he readily admits that he bombs from time to time, which is refreshing honesty whereas the other d-bags just change the subject to save face.

Reiss and Price are the only Patriots beat writers I read these days.

I'm shocked that they think Holt is getting cut. I've really seen enough of Aiken and Slater. I don't care how great they are on special teams. I think Holt will have a bigger impact in games as an offensive weapon than Aiken and Slater do on special teams.

I agree, and I think Reiss also listens, which is highly unusual.

Andy Hart and those PFW boys are okay too.

Unfortunately, in the recent past BB has seen otherwise.

Re: Mike Reiss and Mike Rodak predict how the Patriots roster will look come Septembe

I believe Holt gets cut until he does something, anything, to prove otherwise. My stance on this has been slowly changing from wild eyed enthusiasm at signing to clear reality of 'what has Holt done for us lately?' How soon we forget that this guy was trained to lie down after catching the ball rather than take a hit from big bad O-T-I-S in the 2001 superbowl. Too harsh? ;)

McKenzie makes the team easily.

Aiken is gone. We have people like Arrington, and surprises like Dane Fletcher and a few other guys that frankly have way more upside. Different position but special teams guys nonetheless...

Surprise cut/forced pay cut candidate....Sanders...

BB has said that you often need three safeties on the field; so if you need three on the field, you generally need four on the roster. So would that fourth be Ross Ventrone, then?

Re: Mike Reiss and Mike Rodak predict how the Patriots roster will look come Septembe

I know the WR corp is deeper this year but Joey Bleepin Galloway made the team last year, so i'm leaning towards Holt making it with the Vet aspect playing heavily into the reasoning.
