Michael Silver is at it again

Is Michael Felger posting to this thread under a nom de plume? A post to this thread within the last 3 hours is an almost verbatim statement Felger made within the last 2 hours on 98.5.

Hmmm.....

I don't know if Silver made up the story. Never accused him of that. I just think he blew the story out of proportion and twisted Kraft's quotes to suit his own puposes. Brady wouldn't be upset about it because the story put more pressure on the Patriots to work to get a deal done. So he benefitted from it.

Others accused him of that. For whatever the reason, the "Shoot the messenger" pile ons have been way over-the-top this offseason.

And come on:

since he has egg on his face with the Brady situation, he is now trying to create a controversy with Welker. From his latest column:

Silver's face is clear. The bashers, you among them, notwithstanding.

Silver is a blow hard jerk. That was Gresh and Zo's analysis of him from their experience dealing with him on the WBCN pregame show when he was a regular contributor. So I wouldn't expect him to ever have egg on his face because he is incapable of admitting he is wrong.

He has always had an agenda vs. the Pats. I don't say that about most people who write negative things about the Pats, but he has a long history of it. I never liked the guy because he always seemed to be a guy who wants to be a "look at me" type of guy.

I have plenty of posts to prove I usually brush off people's negative comments about the Pats and don't accuse them of having an agenda. Silver is a guy who does have an agenda and his anti-Pats rants have been going on for years.

But you're moving the goalposts. Regarding the "disconnect" story, which is the story that's being referred to here, Silver has no egg on his face, despite the bashing that you, and so many others, were/are doing regarding that piece.

All the bagging on Silver, and Brady's giving him an interview.

Patriots' Brady gets down to business - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

I've read it twice, but I'm still not seeing anything in that article that would indicate that this was an exclusive interview between Brady and Silver. Just because he's quoting Brady doesn't mean those comments weren't made in front of several reporters during a media session.

Just my opinion of course.

well silver never asked in his interview if there was disconnect. He just says brady refuses to talk about his contract. He couldve really asked the question to prove if he was interpreting or if it was true...

We don't know if he asked that question or not:

Brady declined to discuss his contract status Tuesday night

It's been reported as a one-on-one interview by 98.5.

the thing about the "disconnect" story is that there was no evidence of a disconnect except what he made it out to be. There is still no evidence of that and then he end on to say that Welker "wants a new deal" from a "friend" on another team that is not good reporting, hell i did more fact checking working at my high school newspaper

But, see... your comments are just you making a claim. Silver pointed to a source. That would be evidence.

I am not going to get in to a heated debate about good vs bad reporting other then to say i'd trust someone with 2 or more sources then a "friend said" my friends say a lot of things doesn't make it true

We don't know if he asked that question or not:

i meant his question if there is disconnect between him and and the team and if their relationship is good...
these are the leaps and interpretations he went with in his previous article which he could have really left alone....team in la ? wanting to play with 49ers ? We call can make such connections and establish that brady might be disenchanted with the progress..

None of this is a legitimate indication that Brady would prefer to leave Boston, but that might change if an NFL franchise were to relocate to L.A. in the next few years. Or perhaps he’d be tempted to try to play for the 49ers, the team for which he grew up rooting in nearby San Mateo.

Could things really get that ugly? Say no agreement on an extension is reached before the start of the 2010 campaign and Brady, as is likely, tables any contract discussions until the season is complete. Even if he wanted to leave via unrestricted free agency, the Pats would surely franchise him. At that point Brady could threaten to stay away until the 10th week of the season before signing his one-year tender, surrendering only a pro-rated share of his salary and potentially extending the stalemate into another offseason. It’s possible such a nightmarish state of affairs could compel the Pats to consider trading him.

Yeah, they met behind the missing pile of Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction.

But now you're pointing to the weight of the evidence, not the lack thereof.

If you're the type who doesn't care until it's official, that's your way and a I've got not issue with that. I've also got no issue with crushing someone when you've got evidence that they are wrong.

My beef was with people bashing the story when they had no idea whether it was wrong or not, especially those who were accusing him of making things up and the like, when they, themselves, had no evidence to back up their claims. This board has developed a ridiculous mentality about shooting the messenger, and Ian's even had to close up multiple media-related threads as a result of it.

No, but he is still a reporter with an agenda who bastardizes tjournalism to create contrversial pieces. What he did is no different than what Andrew Breitbart did with Shirley Sherrod (although it unclear if Breitbart knew he had an edited tape). Whatever you say and choose to ignore, Silver twisted Kraft's words to fit his story and shed Kraft in a poor light. He is a hack. Hacks need to manipulate quotes to write a story.

Whether he he has egg on his face or not is irrelevant to me. I really don't care. He is a hack journalist just like the rest of writers on Yahoo Sports. Silver didn't go from SI to Yahoo Sports for nothing.

I am tired arguing this with you. Silver will continue his agenda against the Pats management and whatever other teams he has beefs with (and I don't think he is only out to get the Pats and writers like him typically have multiple targets he is after) and for the most part no one will ever know because Yahoo Sports is one of the last places people go to read sports columns. Most of us wouldn't have know if Florio didn't post his column on his site and then someone seeing the article on PFT and posting it here. That is where I saw the Welker quote.

so one person telling a reporter that there is a "disconnect" and "wants a new deal" is evidence. I guess technally hearsay is a type of evidence.

Who made you the measure of ridiculous mentality?

The medium is the message not the messenger.

I prefer to focus on what the player said, I will not accept unnamed sources or certainly friends as gospel.....................I do not see an issue here at all based on that. Like Brady, who has said he’s not comfortable talking about contract issues, Welker prefers to keep such matters private. “I’ve got two years left on my deal,” he says. “I’m just here to play ball. I just worry about doing my job and let everything else take care of itself. I want to be out here to help my team win. I want to be out here with the fellas. There’re only so many days you can sit inside and rehab. It gets kind of boring in there.”
