Down one more OLB

Once Crable went down and Burgess left, Murrell's chances became pretty good. His next competition was Fletcher.

Murrell was brought in as a top special teamer to potentially fill the 9th LB spot, usually held by a special teamer (Alexander, Izzo, and Davis in recent times). In addition, he is adequate to play at least emergency reps at OLB. We usually carry 5 OLB's and Murrell would be our #5.

My BOTTOM LINE is that as of now, with no free agent additions and no further injuries, I would expect Murrell to make the 53 man squad. However, I do expect to see additional OLB's in camp in the next few weeks.

Semi-off-topic to this, but what does everyone think Murrell's chances at making the roster are? You don't hear much about him.

Aaron Schobel, where art thou?

He will make it by default, as OLBs have for years now. I was hoping that would change this year, let's see.

The real question is if we do not see OLBs brought in is that a good sign (the players we have are looking better to BB than WE perceive them) or bad (no one worth a crap is available) or both?

No offense to Murrell, but this is beginning to remind of the time that Monty Beisel was brought as a special teams upgrade and started at ILB.

can we delete this now? sorry i posted it...

No need to be sorry- it had potential to be noteworthy, and now we can all be happy that it wasn't ;)

i hope he is ok but a seen him as more of a #5 ILB/ST player only i don't think he will get any raps at OLB maybe a few in preseason but thats it

I don't remember it that way, though there eas a guy named Gardner (?) that blew out his Achilles, was that the same time?

To be honest, I whined rightfully, IMO that they let the whole LB position deteriorate.

To be fair, ILB looks great, strictly from a talent potential viewpoint. The admin can't be faulted for the real upside Crable wasted and the solid, if unspectacular vet in Burgess that they overpaid for if anything.

Slight quibble...had they spent some picks on raw DEs years ago and tried to coach them up, maybe there is no Burgess trade.

Nevertheless, Burgess and Crable, unforeseen depth casualties. Still love to see a real pass rusher, that's a whole hell of a lot of on the job training between Cunningham and Ninchovic.

Can we please check the pulse before we dig the grave?
No one has any clue what the injury or severity of it is. Why comment on it before knowing anythng? Of course now that I've said that, I will step away so we can have a 200 post thread speculating what it means if Murrell is out for the season .

You should check yourself

Not true at all.....bezel was brought in to start because at the time, nobody knewnifnbruschi was coming back

At this point, I think we sink or swin with Cunningham and simply throw him into the fire now and let him learn and take his lumps. I would rather begin the development process NOW on a young upside draft pick than hand the role over to a guy like Pierre Woods who has already shown us all that he has, we're not going to see anything more, so let's hand it to the kid and begin the process so he's ready as early as possible.

I agree 100%.
