the fact that the pats are still signing jag G's is not good news that means Dan Connolly, Eric Ghiaciuc, Ted Larsen, and Ryan Wendell, are not realy geting the job done

Re: Pats sign G Darnell Stapleton and CB Willingham

If healthy, it adds another body to the mix at least. The more people we have competing, the more likely it is we find a suitable player. And that's all we really need, with four solid starters at the other OL positions, we just need someone who's not a disaster at LG.

It also helps because Neal's injury is more a matter of when than if. We need 3 guards that we're comfortable having start games.

Was this the first official cut of camp? Because I had Farnham in the contest

The first cut was John Wise OL (which I had correctly predicted). Shawn Crable was cut before camp started.

Good news is that he is young. He is only 24, although he did allow 5 sacks in 12 starts two years ago. To give him the benefit of the doubt Big Ben has perpensity to hold onto the ball a lot longer than he should. Hopefully he will be servicable.

The only greater feeling than being the champs of the world, is being the 2-time champs of the world.. Now the quest to be named superbowl champs starts over, and with hard work and dedication this off-season we as an organization should contend for a seventh title. I thank the fans ahead of time for their support.

Darnell Stapleton #72

I look at six OL spots being set and three being open. With Neal's injury history, Mankins out and Kaczur out, the field is wide open. The more competition the better! I would note that Bussey and Welch are also in the mix.

OFFENSIVE LINE
-------------------
OT Light, Vollmer, LeVoir
C Koppen
RG Neal (for how many games?????????)
RG/C backup Connolly
LG ??????
LG backup ??????
9th OL ??????

Could Stapleton be the first black guy on the Patriots offensive line?

At the least it means the guy could be competitve for a roster spot.
Consdering that we are missing 2 OL, and have many rookies in camp, it isnt necessary that signing a guy is looking for competition as a starter.

And Ohrnberger

Didn't Bussey play a little guard in college? Box was always high on him (for whatever reason). With the depth at LT, I have to wonder if he's gotten any reps at guard.

sounds like an upgrade over kaczur.

He does.... Assuming he stays healthy. He got starting reps at a pretty high level anyway. I wouldn't hold 5 sacks against any G trying to protect Worthlessberger.... Geez, is there anyone that holds the ball as long as him?

Leftwich was sacked 3 times and had only 36 attempts in 2008. That Steelers line was terrible. It was giving up just better than a 10/1 ratio.

d%#*!@t, hopefully Farnham will be back:mad:

Agreed.

FWIW, though, I think that Farnham was brought in as possible protection "In Case of No Welker" (see here if you don't get the reference); I think he had a chance if Welker was in doubt for Week 1, but, as someone said, you can only have so many slot receivers.

Yes, Ohrnberger seems to be the forgotton man in all of this.

what happen to box ? have not seen him on here since the draft

Adding yet another guard would seem to lead to a natural tie-in with this other thread:

They replaced an injured player with a veteran player, Mankins has nothing to do with it and doesn't factor in yet if at all.

They've added 2 veteran guards to the team in about a week. You are welcome to believe that those actions are independent of the situation at the guard position. Others may not view it that way.

That's why I noted that it's a natural tie-in to the other thread.
