compared to the rest of the league? I would say B+ with a potential to go A-/A. It all will depend on how the kids play.

rated A for Awesome.

The way I see it:

QB - A
RB - B-
WR - A-
TE - B-
OL - B
DL - B
LB - B-
DB - B+
ST - B+

That averages out to about a B. I say it'll be tough, but I have a good feeling about this year :rocker:

I think we're on a mission, beginning with the man named Brady.

So, what 5 rosters do you all see being clearly better than the Patriots?

I'm guessing the 5 "sexy" choices would be the Vikings, Saints, Colts, Cowboys and Ravens.

I went with seriuos SB contender. They have a few holes LG and OLB and they have a lot of youth for better or worse but this team is stacked with talent up and down and things will fall into place. I truly think we will be back in the SB this year.

I'm very optimistic. I think this year, we will see some great plays from the kids, but to expect them to play in the big game is asking too much. Give this team another year and it will dominate.

We're gonna be thin at OLB, along the Oline, and are sketchy at RB in my opinion. So, we'll need some good fortune in those areas. But if we can stay healthy, and not need to lean on too many backups, I can see this team making a deep run.

I say their good but their going to have to do something they've done once since 2005 - beat the Colts.

I say they are elite because any team who has had 9 consecutive winning seasons and had the 3rd best record in the conference last year and appears to have a better squad than last year and one of the best coaches of all time must be an elite squad.

An impossible question to answer because there are too many ways to define the quesiton.
Are we considering depth? Are we considering that QB should count significantly more than other positions? Fit for the system? Coaching? Are we weighting to most strengths, or fewest weaknesses, etc, etc, etc.

That said, I think you have to put them somewhere in the vicinity of the top 5. I have a hard time coming up with 6 teams that I would expect to do better. (There are none in our division. Indy, Bmore, Pitt, SD would be the only others in the discussion in the AFC, and other than the Saints, the NFC is not the calbier of the AFC, especially at the top end)

The thing is that top 5 may not be good enough for what we want to happen. Hell, we may have been top 5 last year, and if we werent we were on the fringe, and we were a very long way from good enough to win it all.
5th best might sound impressive but when 3 of the other 4 are in your conference, it can end up very disappointing.

they have more then a nuff fire power to make the playoffs there is no way that there is 6 better teams in the AFC then the pats but if they want to make a run in the playoffs the OL will have to play lights out and they will have to find a pass rush some were.

There is a big drop off between choice #1 and choice #2.. I do not think they are a top 5 team, but they are very close.. there has been some very obvious as well as subtle improvements to this team, that should make us better than last year..

Would prefer our current position, rather than being in the top 5...

If I was a Jests fan, it would be an easy choice, because Rex told me so...

I wish I were a Jets fan so I could just take a nap, plan a trip to Europe, study astrophysics and look forward to tuning up in time for the Super Bowl. From what it says on the decal, the Jets won't even back into the playoffs this year. Fantastic for them! How come we can't get a coach like Rex who can see the future?

Everybody's pretty optimistic here in Pats-land, but there's so much that is unknown about certain aspects of this team like the RBs, LBs and OL at this point. This could be an 8-8 or a 12-4 year especially with the schedule the Pats have. My feeling is that we're staring at 9-7 or 10-6 and holding our collective breath about the playoffs in December. I'm creeped out right now.

BB is bringing in some pretty mediocre talent to look at right now - not the future HOFs who may be over the hill like previous years. I really wish we had a running back like Cory Dillon to shoulder the load and stud veteran LB to call the plays. It is encouraging to read the Gary Guyton reviews and the upside rookies are bringing to camp this year (including Tate in that picture).

Wow come on guys. Top 5? No. Top 5 teams have a pass rush. Top 5 teams don't have a 3rd string guard on their O-line. Top 5 teams don't have a RB committee with an average age of 52 (might be an exaggeration). Top 5 teams aren't counting on contributions from so many first and second year players. Top 5 teams can stop the effing run!!
Point being, we're not a top 5 team, nor at this point in the (pre)season are we a SuperBowl contender. What did Wes say?
One game at a time...
We are best represented in this poll by #2. Good with a chance to win it all.

Mediocre Talent.. find that term interesting, perhaps "unsexy" may be a better choice..

We have a stud MLB.. Jerod Mayo who was injured last year..

There has been too much turnover in the roster to accurately judge how good they are going to be. The Pats could have something like 20 rookies or 2nd year players on the active roster.

They could be great, but the young guys need to come along perfectly. The hope has to be that Brady, Moss, and Welker are all healthy and they can approximate the passing game from 2007. I'm worried that Welker will be limited and that Moss has lost it though.

LB Aaron Schobel maybe, WR Rod Owens, S Josh Barrett, S Brett Lockett, David Patten, C Eric Ghiaciuc, - not many starters here. Unsexy yes, mediocre yes, encouraging no.

Mayo was a great rookie with veteran guys around him and got hurt last year - not exactly a proven NFL stud. Even head case Adalius Thomas turned in a pretty decent season mayo's 1st year. The jury is still out on Mayo for this year. We can only hope. The linebacker corps is the major weakness on this defense. If TBC, Guyton, Mayo and both rookies form a solid corps, this will be a great defense. Belichick on the case gives us lots of reasons to be optimistic that this can happen, but we need to see these guys consistently in the right place at the right time.
