Patriots claimed injured Josh Barrett off waivers - Clayton cut

Re: Patriots sign Josh Barrett off waivers - Who gets cut???

My best friend is a Bronco Fan, Barrett was his binky.
I've watched alot of Bronco footage of Barrett particularly.
His game is alot like Arrringtons.
Relentless to the ball quicker than he should be, can deliver a pop when he's in position. Now that's where the similarities end, he takes wrong angles does not wrap up properly. He does have decent hands and I saw him rail in a pair of interceptions playing against scrubs.

Yeah. That's why I think he's here specifically for a look on special teams when he gets healthy.

Well, turns out Clayton is the one to be released. Damn, I had him making the 53 :bricks:

Thanks for saving me the trouble. I was just sitting here wondering which one of us had him making the 53. :D

Re: Patriots sign Josh Barrett off waivers - Who gets cut???

So they pick up a guy, essentially to pay him and put him on IR, since he is about to have season-ending shoulder surgery.
Um, hope it's a two-year deal.

To be fair toward myself, I took Clayton off my 53 as soon as I heard that Edelperson might be getting reps at RB ;)

Re: Patriots sign Josh Barrett off waivers - Who gets cut???

So if we try to put him on IR, Denver can snag him back? And the guy become a ping pong ball for the entire off season?

Not necessarily; there's some sort of offseason deadline (I forget when) after which you can safely IR a player.

This is why, if you might recall, the Patriots didn't IR McKenzie right away, even though it was clear he wasn't going to be playing at all last season, and he wasn't going to count against the roster before he was signed.

Maybe Josh Barrett is Aaron Schobel's best friend.

I did too. (sheepish grin)

This was designed to stick it to Denver and twist the knife. I think that Denver was trying to sneak him through waivers or some such thing.

I guess that BB is still really really PO'd at Josh McDaniel's little war dance. Someone should check to see if Denver did this to the Patriots in the past. Wasn't there a little dust up when BB asked a team to let his player go through waivers but that team claimed him?

Skippy McDaniel must be beside himself. First Dummer-ville and now this.

Maybe this is the first salvo in the Schobel War.

Don't f*ck with Bill; he will get you back in the end! Glad he is on our side.

Players can safely go to IR on August 31. "Vested veterans," players with at least 4 years of service, do not have to pass through waivers even before that date.

Re: Patriots sign Josh Barrett off waivers - Who gets cut???

Nobody is going to get cut, he is going straight to IR.

Apparently I have made an error, he did count against the 80 men roster limit even though he is inactive and all but headed for IR. Therefore someone had to be cut.

How is claiming a player that they waived sticking it to them? They cut the guy, how are we hurting them?
All that follows is illogical for that reason.

I am not sure about this but I believe that teams try to sneak players through waivers to get them on the practice squad. Of course Barrett is a different matter; was Denver trying to sneak him through and get him to IR? I will admit that I do not know the particulars of how this works.

I know that a few years ago BB tried to work a deal with a team so he could sneak one of his players through waivers and get him on the practice squad. The team laughed in his face and grabbed the player; I wonder if this was Denver.

Like I said before don't f**k with Bill.

In any case BB is taking the Long View again as he did with Tate and the Raider 1'st next year and as he has done in the past. He does not have to worry about Win-Now-Or-Else.

prior to the 75 man roster players have to clear waivers to go on IR. they were not cutting him.

I was looking forward to Clayton leading the team in preseason rushing yards.

Now whose bandwagon can I jump on? :(

There may be an interesting story here of double-crossing and revenge if some enterprising reporter wants to dig into it. Denver may have screwed the Patriots with the pickup of a guy that BB had targeted for the practice squad or Denver could have screwed the Patriots in some other way or Bill was PO'd by Skippy's celebration after the last game. Or maybe it is simply a case of O'Brien knowing Barret really well.

It is not good to make enemies with Bill.

But I doubt anyone will run with this story; too much work. Reporters would rather blather on about contracts and do human-interest stories about guy who are sure to be cut (but will grant interviews) such as Buddy Farnham(?) (the ProJo specialize in these dead-end stories).

If there was really a story here, half of the Boston media would give up their first born to get the skinny on it. Ninety percent of ESPN reports would too.

If that is what this is than me don't like.

Instead of engaging in a meaningless border war by stealing a guy that we will stick on IR for a year and then release at the end of next years camp, he should get his revenge by befriending Josh and trading our dead wood for 1st round picks and their future HOF players for 4th round picks like he does with crazy al.

Jump on BJGE's bandwagon. From the amount of reps he was taking, I suspect he will be seeing plenty of action in the first preseason game.
