Re: Reiss "Pats getting Schoebel would be almost too good to be true"

It might be a smart move to pick up Schobel.....

Make it worth his while to stay up north for a couple of seasons....

Can't say I'm opptimistic about the chances of him signing with Patriots tho.

Re: Reiss "Pats getting Schoebel would be almost too good to be true"

There is no question that the patriots would like to have Schobel. Unfortunately, our home games aren't played in Texas. This reminds me of the Jsaon Taylor situation over the past couple of years.

There is no question at all in my mind that Schoebel would add signifcantly more than others that might make the squad in addition to the 6 DL's and 8 OL's that would have made the squad in addition to Burgess had he stayed.

Chances of Schobel playing for Patriots is pretty slim.....

"Owner Bob McNair admitted Thursday the Texans are interested in former Buffalo defensive end Aaron Schobel according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. Schobel, who was waived by the Bills on Wednesday, is a free agent who wants to sign with the Texans if he elects to play a 10th season."

Sure, he'd be great here.

However:
He is leaving Buffalo partly because he wants to be near his family in Texas.
He is leaving Buffalo partly because he doesn't want to play in a 3-4.
He is leaving Buffalo partly because, mentally, he's not sure he wants to play anymore.

That's three big strikes.

Three VERY big strikes, and I, for one, sure as heck wouldn't want to sign him, and, 3 or 4 games into the season have him decide his heart really wasn't in it.

He's leaving Buffalo because they're an aimless franchise on a downward spiral. Why wouldn't you want to leave Buffalo?

The word from that idiot Felger is that if the Pats don't sign him it will because Kraft won't come up with the dough. There's that "cheap Kraft" meme again.

Well, at least if he talks about the Krafts being cheap, it will prevent him from whining about John Henry being cheap. Really, that show is getting terrible. Everyone is too cheap, even though the sox shell out 160 milion in payroll, and the pats are routinely right up against the cap. He's turning into an idiot

Turning into?

Felger would be right in this case....

its obvious that he should spare no expense whatsoever in this scenario....he first needs to move the whole patriots franchise to texas, preferably a block or two away from schobel's house

it might cost a little bit to buy out the land, build a stadium in 1 month, and move EVERYONE connected with teh Pats to the other side of the country.......but cmon, if he doesnt hes really cheap

Maybe if the pats can convince him that he's the missing piece for a Superbowl run and then pay him well to boot then his Texas home sickness might take a back seat to a chance for a ring.

Nah, that's just exorbitant and wasteful. Clearly, the sensible compromise would be to buy a lear jet for Schobel and hire a pilot that will fly him between Foxboro and Texas for each practice. While it may not be enough to keep Felger from calling Kraft cheap, it might still get the job done.

Every day he hasn't signed with the Texans is another day for the Patriots to work on him.

Agree, Deus. If today comes and goes without his signing with the Texans, then I think we're in play. In this case, 'no news is good news.'

I feel the same way. If he had his heart set on the Texans, I expect the Texans would throw their best offer at him and the deal would be done. If there are other considerations involved, he might go elsewhere.

He would definitely make an interesting addition to the Pats.

The Pats are no longer a pure 3-4 team. That is an objection that BB can address quite easily in his sales pitch.

The last thing you want to do is lie to a player about what scheme you'll run. Then you'll have another pissed off player like Adalius Thomas.
