Julian Edelman has been doing some RB drills during practice. He definitely has the quickness and hands for a Kevin Faulk type role although he may need to get a little stronger.

Edelman in the running; Thursday AM notes

sounds like they may use him for some wild cat or end arounds

This would be very interesting. If Edelman catches on to the whole third down RB thing, somebody might be faced with a decision to make: keep Edelman as Faulk's successor, or continue to use him as a WR? Of course, both are possible at the same time. Doesn't Faulk line up as a WR sometimes?

Played QB at college. WR last year, RB this year. He is an entire offense rolled into one.

I would rather see Maroney do those things such as a short pass on the outside as its about the only thing he has shown productivity at and should be primarily used for.

I'm patenting the phrase 'Wild Pat formation' now.

Some direct snaps like Faulk sometimes gets and is per wild cat could get interesting, as I presume JE can throw pretty well too.

As soon as Edelman can block like Faulk, we can discuss him as Faulk's replacement. Until then, I am happy to consider him the replacement of Green-Ellis as the 5th RB who would be exdpected to get as many carries as Green-Ellis did last year, if two RB's are injured as was the case last year.

Edelman is doing whatever is asked of him. He is the consummate utility player.

I agree ... a few plays that will sit in the playbook and use if they see an opportunity ... typical Bill always planning for that one chance opportunity.

WOW! Didn't even think about that option. Talk about a wrinkle for opposing defenses. I'm guessing he can throw pretty well on the run?

From what little I saw of him during his college days, I'd say that he can.

Maybe we should suit him up on the other side of the ball and play him at OLB? :confused2:

Edelback. I like it.

I have a really good feeling about using Edelman as a RB. He's a lot tougher than people think and craaazy elusive. He's definitely something special... If Welker didn't heal and was out for most of the season I could have seen him getting 80 plus receptions also.
