An impressive young receiver corps could leave veteran, Torry Holt, without a place on the 2010 Patriots.

Put it this way....he is the sixth guy on the depth chart at this point based on the general consensus of reports. Does that mean we keep 6 WRs? Stay tuned!

If that turns out to be the case, we have the best corps in the league.

Buddy Farnham snagged two one-handers today... do we just have all the next all-word receivers now? lol

His best chance to stay with the team ended when Welker started full participation...only an injury(heaven forbid) could keep him with the Patriots.

Frankly I'd like nothing better than to have and not need him than to need and not have him.

As far as I'm concerned Torry Holt is the 3rd best receiver currently with the Patriots. Tate has been a big story at TC but on the field in the heat of battle Holt is proven and for me anyways he still had all his skills last season.

I don't believe for one minute that he will not make the 53 barring injury of course.

I've not been to camp, and there haven't been any exhibition games yet, but I have to ask.....

Same media that had Cassel cut and Gutz sticking with the team?

What the FANS think and what is reality are, many times, exact opposites.. right now Price and Tate are getting a ton of reps because that's what they need. Now, that is not to say that Holt is a lock. Not by any stretch. However, I'd much rather have him on the roster than have one of the guys go down and not have him available.

+1... TC is nice, but Sundays are different.

Taylor Price, has never played a down in the NFL Brandon Tate, is yet to catch a pass. i find it hard to believe that Holt will be cut

For sure....... just Mediots doing what they do best. It will be curious to see what happens, but I'd put money on Holt not only making the team, but starting opposite Moss against the bungles.

Agree, except that he wont start because Welker will be ready to go.

Mike's not a mediot - he's a freelance fan who contributed this article to us. The premise is just the fact that for the first time in a long time they're so deep that a guy like Holt may actually be battling for a roster spot:

the fact that a player with over 900 catches and 13,000 yards could be squeezed out of the roster is a good sign for Patriots fans. The passing offense should be as exciting as ever in 2010.

Whoops..... no offense meant.

I'm guess I'm just an old cynic  .... I get the premise that we're so deep that a guy like Torry Holt would be on the bubble is almost an embarrassment of riches. I really do. I don't particularly buy it (that he's on the bubble), but I do get the point.

I just read it and was reminded of those articles that "pro mediots" manufacture and turn a negative to a positive. No offense to a fellow fan (Mike) meant :rocker: .

We may disagree on this point, but it's all good.

Andy.... I agree..... I'm assuming we open five-wide. ;)

My money is on Torry being on the 53. Tate and Price are nice to have and I hope the continue to thrive but Holt is a "PROVEN" receiver.... He's not going anywhere............... my .02 cents

I kinda see a lot of formation possibilities in the spread 'em offense for Moss/Welker/Holt/Hernandez/Gronk

Even typing that sound NOT FAIR. And that's not even all the potentially great catching weapons we might end up with.

I think we'll be seeing more 3 and 4 WR packages against the Bengals than we won't. There may be plenty of opportunity for guys like Holt/Tate/Edelman/Hernandez/or even Price to see the field. Personally, I think if Holt's route running continues to be solid throughout TC and the preseason then he should carve out a spot on the team for himself.

No worries man, I just felt bad for Mike in the event he read it. Didn't want to place that label on one of our own

I kind of question it to a certain extent because Belichick's a classy guy and wouldn't keep a guy like Holt until the end only to cut him and make it tougher to land somewhere else. I think next week's exhibition game should be interesting to say the least in terms of seeing more from some of these guys.

Holt is the 6th on the depth chart because of the camp performances of two players who have never caught an nfl pass and a backup slot receiver? If we try, we can list a dozen rooks that have looked good in camp, guys like Childress. Holt is the 3rd best WR on the squad.

Belichick may choose to play Tate and Edelman more because of their potential. Belichick could even cut Holt. However, Edelman, Price and Tate have a long way to go to be a better wider receiver than Torry Holt.
