Yes, he's been a bust so far but it seems like the guy could be an absolute monster if he can put it together and there isn't a better coach to help him do that than BB. We're thin on OLBs anyway, if he could be gotten cheap enough it just might be a crazy idea that works.

What do you think?

About to get a lot of crap for this but if Rex can't turn the guy around BB probably won't do much better.

Not so much that Rex is a better defensive coach and developer of youth, but it seems like Gholston's problems are in his head and his heart. You'd think a player like that would benefit from Rex's system and wouldn't be aided by moving to a system where more is asked of him.

If he was cut, I wouldn't mind giving him a flyer. I wouldn't give up anything for him though.

Wow. 7-7+gift vs one of the greatest football minds of a generation. Wow.

We won't get better by adding bad players.
Gholston simply is not a 34 OLB, no matter how you slice it, and even as a sub package DE, he lacks the variety of tools that it takes to be an effective NFL pass rusher.
Great college player who just can't compete at this level.

Maybe For a 10th rnd pick.....

Worst. Idea. Ever.

Is Ryan Leaf available as the vet backup 3rd string QB?

If you can't make it in Rex Ryan's system, you can't make it in any system.

He's only played 2 seasons so far, also James Harrison floundered on practice squads and in NFL Europe before he put it together, and we know how effective he became.

This one might be making a move on over to the Practice Squad forum.

The Jets system is simpler then the Pats, Rex builds his system around player talent where BB finds players to fit his system, If you can't make it playing for Rex then you just can't make it. No disrespect to BB.

I don't know how that would be disrespectful towards BB.

It needs to, right along with Gholston himself.

I don't give a damn about what Ryan/BB can do. He's not a 3-4 guy, and he's probably not even an NFL guy. The most I'd do at this point is take a flyer on him if I'm a desperate 4-3 team.

I wouldn't trade for Gholston unless we can dump that bum Brady.

I did not want anyone to think that I am saying Rex or his system is better then BB's, or that Rex coaches better. Rex's system may be better and his coaching may be better, I am just not prepared to say that at this time.

And shouldnt be for at least 15 more years.

Rex is a good defensive coach himself ... I doubt Bill could do anymore with Gholston outside of hiding him in a scheme where he could excell as a specialty player.

While we're at it why not sign Tony Mandarich to play left tackle, trade Brady for picks, and pick up Ryan Leaf on the cheap?

Trades for players rarely work (with notable exceptions such as a certain slot receiver we stole from Miami). Ryan would not trade him to the Patriots if he had an ounce of talent.

No way I would be in favor of this trade.
