Patriots Sign Two

The Pats have signed WR Rod Owens who had 61 catches for Florida State last year and TE Carson Butler who played at Michigan and was on various NFL practice squads last season in the NFL.

Re: Patriots Sign Two

Yup, gotta address those areas of need.

Re: Patriots Sign Two

Is this the same Owens who when one of the reporters mentioned on twitter earlier this summer "Owens works out for the Patriots", it caused a few of us to think it was T.O. for a second? :D

Re: Patriots Sign Two

Strange...

TE I can see if Crumpler isn't looking too good, but you'd think with two rookies a vet would be more prudent. Maybe they just want an extra body so the three who will make the team don't have to play every snap in camp and preseason?

WR I'm stumped, unless he's a ST guy or they can stash him on the PS. Even then, seems like we have enough WR, both quality and borderline guys, to fill our camp needs.

Re: Patriots Sign Two

Must be that Gronk, Hernandez, Tate and Price have already proven their value and Pats want to lessen their reps, keep them fresh for the season.

[EDIT: I See someone else said the same thing as I was typing. Oh well.)

Re: Patriots Sign Two

Its just them wanting to look at two young guys they probably had some interest in but not the roster room. Now they do. So they take a look. They play exhibitions games with significant use of backups. They need guys for reps.

I never understand why some fans get confused by moves like this in camp. Its a chance to try guys out and they have some extra roster spots. No need to analyze it like they just made a major free agent acquisition and in terms of a "needs" analysis. Its not to address "needs." They're street free agents with no NFL game experience. One right out of college. Its to look at a guy more along the lines of future growth potential, not current needs status. Nothing more, nothing less.

YES..............

Thank god. BB is finally listening........ What this team needs is WR and TE help. With Wes missing most of the season (if not the rest of his career) with that devastating knee injury, and Moss being on the bubble and all, we are perilously thin at WR.

Plus Baker is a bust and Watson has hands of stone. We really need need help at the TE spot too.

........ Oh, wait ;)

That is why I recognize the name :) I look on wiki, and it comes up with his college teams season page, which I recognized from looking when he worked out before :)

That's worth a +1.

I expect to see a TE and a WR on our Practice Squad. It is OK to have competition for those spots.

Also, we need bodies for TC reps and for garbage time reps in preseason games. After all, we carry 75 players into the last preseason games when few of the roster players should be getting reps.

Two reasons...

1. Save reps for the annointed

2. Shadow roster...Y'know, players DO get injured

You forgot the big part - - - how Brady is "disgusted" with his contract situation.....

Maybe they want to run a lot of 3-tightend sets...then they would not need as many WRs... oh wait...

Maybe Crumpler or Gronk is dinged ugh.

The Patriots got Owens, the WR. Awesome. I was so disappointed when I thought he was gonna go to the Bengals instead. Moss, TO and Welker. No defense is gonna stop that trio.

Oh wait. Crap. Who the heck is this Rod person? Oh the drug adict from Flordia, not TO. What the eff?
