With all this talk about who will line up next to Mayo, has Mayo gotten a complete pass on Rice's TD run up the gut to open the playoff loss to Baltimore? Who didn't do their job on that run?

Does it really matter? This is a new year. This team will be significantly different on offense and defense with the youngsters it's added and who are returning from injury. The ones returning from injury, so far, have been the highlight of the camp. Both Tate and McKenzie. McKenzie could earn himself a starting job next to Mayo the way he's playing.

Let's not worry about the past and let's focus on the future.

Really it seemed to me that Merriweather shares the greatest blame. If he takes a proper angle and at least can slow Rice down it may have been a 20 yard gain or so as opposed to 80. Some guys up front goofed too but the difference between 20 and 80 > the difference between 5 and 20.

I know it was painful to watch; but that was last year; this is a new year!

Maybe Mayo and Merriweather can smash Rice to the ground when they next meet.

The DL, The LBs and the secondary screwed up on that play. To include Mayo...

1. Wilfork ended up on the ground. Any time that happens, our run defense is screwed.
2. Both Guyton and Mayo were completely blocked off.
3. At least two players in the secondary missed diving tackles.

Give me a healthy Wilfork and Spikes from his senior year (instead for Guyton), and I think that play never happens.

I believe BB once said -- as a general rule -- something like the first 10 yards are on the front guys and the rest is on the secondary.

I believe, from recollection, that Mayo was the most responsible, then AD. The semi-worthless Guyton went into the completely wrong hole, not sure if that was designed that way or what or if he just completley misread it. He shouldn't be starting. There's a reason he was an UDFA.

And then the rest is the secondary.

Then the game was lost with the turnstile's blocking of suggs or whomever that lead to a strip sack.
