Some of Patten's teammates talk about his influence:
It Is What It Is Teammates talk about Patten’s influence
Matt Light: I was actually looking forward to playing with DP. A good guy. A great leader. A good guy to have in the locker room. ... his work ethic. He’s a humble guy. He goes about his business the right way. A true professional that other guys look up to, and he’s a good role model for the younger cats to come in and maybe have an idea as to what the league is all about.
Julian Edelman: Just a professional. You’re not just an athlete. You’re a professional. Being on time, being early, taking care of your body, competing at all times, whether you’re in the weight room or running a route or sprints. That’s what David Patten brought. He brought a work ethic that was awesome.
Kevin Faulk: He was an inspiration. Every aspect of a man that you would want to model yourself [after] — similar to Troy Brown. He lifts you up, in every aspect. … The funny thing is it’s not a game with David Patten. It’s David Patten the person that I’ll remember most. Sitting down and having talks with guys that need to be talked to. Inspirational talks with guys he might feel are going in the wrong direction. That’s the David Patten I’ll remember.
