OT: Haynesworth fails conditioning test

Ravens rookie DT Terence Cody also failed the conditioning test. Wow, the Ravens draftees are having a tough time this year.

He passed it the second or third time.

Nobody else on the entire team had to do a conditioning test. Shanahan is screwing around, and the NFLPA is watching.

Cody passed his conditioning test the 2nd time around.

Cody wasn't facing the same test.

One Redskins defensive player said few players are capable of passing the test only Haynesworth has been required to take ... Even some team officials acknowledge Haynesworth is clearly in shape and has dropped about 35 pounds since last season.

Redskins Insider - Redskins will give Haynesworth a third chance to pass physical

This is Shanahan being a putz.

I think Shanahan is doing exactly the right thing.
Haynesworth cashed a 21 million dollar check, then abandoned the team, and told Shanahan that he needs to put in the system Albert wants or trade Albert. That is challenging the authority of the coach, but worse it is putting yourself ahead of the success of the team.
I dont want to be part of this team unless what I want it the priority.
Shanahan is showing Haynesworth that while Albert may have more money, Mike is in charge.
The Redskins are a better team with Shanahan exerting his authority and showing the malcontent that the team matter more than him.

I'm sure that Shanahan designed the test so that Haynesworth would fail it. Wait til he passes the test and takes his spot on the second unit.

Haynesworth is thinking that he is a superstar, and it doesn't matter if he is out of shape, he will play.

Mike S clearly things differently ;)

Shanahan is just showing Hayneworth who's boss. It could blow up on him when Haynesworth files his inevitable grievance with the NFL, but right now Shanahan is showing Haynesworth he won't be able to shoot his way out of town because he won't be able to pill on stats in the 3-4.

I dont think Shanahan cares if Haynesworth files a grievance. The NFLPA cant make him play a 43 as far as I know.
But I guarantee you if Haynesworth files a grievance and thereby continues to challenge authority and team culture, it will only get worse for him. Shanahan needs to break him or at least show his team that he is willing to, then its business as usual.

What I heard this morning was that all the players had to do two sprints of 300 yards or something like that, but Albert excused himself to go to the can between his, and Shanny felt he took a little too long and made him do a third.

I'm not a fan of Shanahan, but I am with him on this one. Okay, so Albert's never played in a 3-4 before, but geez, he's got this ridiculous contract and no one else is going to take it on in a trade (never mind whether or not they would take him for a more agreeable salary.) Shanny told him, if you're that unhappy, go see if you can find someone and we'll look too, but once you cash that $21M check we expect you to do your job. He cashed the check and now he wants to get out of doing his job.

Players are always the ones saying, "Hey, this is a business." Yes it is, and in business things change. Zorn isn't there anymore and he's not coming back. That's the way it is.

I know, in the NFL you can get cut at any time, etc. But this is just stupid and it's good someone had the balls to draw the line. Belichick sure wouldn't put up with this nonsense.

Haynesworth is the perfect example of why the Redskins approac has never worked.
When your personel approach is to go after the biggest names on the market, and overpay them, you create a team of prima dona turds.

Its disgusting to me how sports continues to move further and further in the direction of players being spoiled prima donas who feel hey are entitled to whatever they want.
This morning Marcellus Wiley was on ESPN doing the typical defending of Haynesworth, how he played in a 43 since Pop Waner so hes right to be unhappy. But he and whoever were there described pro sports and coaching. They said something like in baseball you do what you want. In the NFL you have training camp and curfews and fines, and the coach treats you like this and in the NBA they 'treat you like a man, there are no curfews' and the coaches deliver room service to the players.
Sadly, all sports appear to moving in the direction they described the NBA as.

I was listening to the NFL on Sirius this morning and they said that if you participated in the off season work out program you didn't have to take the conditioning test and big AL didn't, thats why he had to take it.

Haynesworth was the only one who didn't attend 50% of the team's offseason workouts, so he was the only one whom they didn't how in or out of shape he was.

It wasn't arbitrary.

Oh man, this could be a classic "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episode!!! From the article:

________________
"Haynesworth clocked 70 seconds on the first shuttle when he tried to pass the test on Friday -- but he then violated the test's rules by taking an extended potty break.

"He had to use the restroom," Wright said. "You get 3½ minutes. He was gone close to 10."
_______________

OK, I can see some agenda here with the Redskins purposely going to the press with that.

Can imagine the fans tomorrow at TC throwing Metamucil on the field.

I'd just explain that you can't play in the NBA while being a fat sack of **** like Haynesworth is, so there you have it.

Mike Golic of ESPN's Mike & Mike in the Morning, a 47 year old man who's been out of the NFL since 1993 was able to pass this conditioning test today.

Now THAT puts Albert's problem into perspective. If Golic can do that, you'd think someone quite younger could, eh?
