Ian's Daily Blog - It was reported this evening that wide receiver Terrell Owens has landed with Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco out in Cincinnati, which now turns up the intensity for the Patriots week one match-up against the Bengals on September 12th in Foxboro.

which mean... the Pats corners better bring their "A" game in week one. The signing is proof that Antonio Bryant in in questionable health and the Bungels are worried. Bodden and Butler have their hands full this season.

I think that the Pats missed the boat and that Belichick was asleep at the wheel. I read, at one time, that TO would have liked to play for the Pats and would have taken less money to sign. With him and Moss on the outside a healed Welker in the slot and a Brady at 100% and with Torry Holt and Brandon Tate in the wings, I cant see how this offensive team could be stopped.

Unless of course they are looking at Brandon Tate as a younger version with as much talent.

Anyway I would have liked to have seen TO line up with Moss.

Edelman say hi :)

But I am glad we didn't sign him! He would probably go off on one because he can't wear #81!

If we didn't make the moves in the draft that we did and didn't bring in Holt, I wouldn't have had a problem with bringing Owens in for a look. But it doesn't appear as if we need him now. Brady likes Tate, we drafted heavily at TE, Holt looks to be another good posession guy, and Price is a project for the future. There's no reason now to subject the locker room, which had it's fair share of problems last season, to Owens.

And the way to stop that offense would be the same way defenses have been stopping our offense since Super Bowl XLII... put Brady on his back.

I'll take a wait-and-see approach to the Bengals' offense. There's only one ball; let's see how OchoCinco, Antonio Bryant, and TO co-exist - especially after the Bengals are forced to punt, after a turnover, after a loss, etc. All three of them are used to being the go-to guy; how will they handle being option #2 or option #3, especially if or when their team has a tough loss?

Agreed. TO could have been dropped if he ran his mouth, there is no reason not to sign him, it would have made the team a lot more dangerous.

The patriots chose Holt over TO. I suspect the FO doesn't think that TO has much left in the tank.

Personally, I would have liked to see a year of Moss and TO.

In 2009, we had Moss, Welker, Edelman (who was playing very well in place of Welker late), Aiken and Stanback. We are replacing Aiken and Stanback with Holt and Tate. We even have rookie Price. We had the #3 passing offense in 2009. Brady is healthy. We really didn't need TO.

This means....Carson Palmer is going to need to turn into Goro in order to keep throwing to both Chad and TO

I couldn't agree more. TO will be the difference in a week 1 loss for the Pats.

Glad we passed on TO - great athlete, good YAC but 3 things are against him
a) he drops too many catches. b) locker room needs more team spirit not individual personality. c) $2m +$2m in bonus on top of what we are already paying for WR/TEs - I would rather spend the money on increasing the offer to Mankins

aw shucks, the Jesters didn't sign him?? Shoot...

I would say it means very little. Receivers do not seamlessly integrate into an offensive system, and T.O., if he in fact still has the ability to contribute significantly, will likely not be making waves in Week 1 in that offense. The guy was the primary receiver in Buffalo and caught 55 passes last year. I don't care who is throwing him the ball, if he is getting enough separation any pro QB should be able to find him. As stated, "He doesn’t get the separation he used to enjoy coming off the line of scrimmage. Simply put, he’s not a dominant performer."

While he would have made an interesting storyline, I cannot believe that anyone who watched the guy play last year (he had a grand total of 4 catches against the Pats in two games) believes with all his drop issues that he would be a value added on the Pats rather than a probable cut like Galloway. As stated yesterday, only in Madden Football and its virtual reality.

Which means... the Pats might be already guaranteed a victory in week 1.

TO has never beaten the Patriots...

2009
W vs Buffalo 9/14
W vs Buffalo 12/20

2007
W vs Dallas 10/14

2004
W vs Eagles - SB 39

1998
W vs 49ers - 12/20

Hopefully he can keep his streak alive!

don't worry. after 2 weeks, TO will start dropping balls and palmer will beging to throw more to Ocho. This will result in TO blowing up and causing the bengals to implode. :D

Who will do that week one? Tully Banta-Cain?

The AFC East might be a great division, but it's a fact that we have the worst pass rush of any four teams collectively.

I think it means that Jermaine Gresham just got more room to operate. Don't sleep on this guy in the Bengal's offense. Palmer has never had an option like this. I like gronk and Hernandez but this guy has the chance to be better than both.

Which means...

The Patriots will be the team with the LESSER amount of NATIONAL attention focused on them between the two teams playing in their OWN home opener.
I betcha the cbs camera crews will be instructed to hone in on the Bengals dynamic duo of comical high profile receivers whenever possible.
Gee, I thought The Pats had a pretty juicy tandem with Moss & Holt to focus on that first game, but all the mojo fan attention will be on the other sideline.

Look, before you jump down ma throat and stuff and come at me with all these production stats and chemistry lessons on T.O. and how tha Pats don't need tha fool etc. etc. , remember this-

I dunno 'bout any of you guys, but I, ME, I tune in every Sunday to see what tha fug is goin' on with the HOT storyline in the NFL, wherever it may be. And, if the thing has some controversy and/or wacky shenanigans thrown in for entertainment sake, all the better.
I watch footbawl to be ENTERTAINED and like MY team to have the upper hand in the ENTERTAINMENT angle whenever I talk about The Pats with all the haters here in NYC.

Seems the mojo spotlight has moved on over the past 2 seasons up there in Foxboro. Yeah, and now the freaking home opener is gonna be more of the dang same! The camera crews are gonna be there in the effing BENGALS' sideline.

Aww, sca-rew that. I, ME, I wanted T.O. in Gillette on opening day. Yeah, in a PATS uniform.
Yeah, for the T.O. show. and all the FUN, I repeat, FUNNN it woulda been following the status of the proverbial powder keg all season long. "Does it blow up early? Late season? Or never at all?"

Yeah, now I gotta have it shoved in my face on the day I look forward to starting the day after The Super Bowl every february.

Know what? It's like seeing your friend going out with tha chick YOU wanted to nail.

In closing... Either way, win or lose, it's gonna be ENTERTAINING. (that is, before the national spotlight goes along with Ocho Cinco and T.O. outta New England and back to Cincinatti. I hear the sound of crickets at Gillette the day after.
Call me a spoiled brat, but I hate it when other teams get more attention than The Pats. I like to talk sh*t in NYC in my Brady jersey. T.O. paired up with Chad Johnson ain't helping one friggin bit.

I wanted my circus, d%#*!@t.

Some people never learn. TO is exactly what we don't need.

LOL absolutely:popcorn: Ocho and TO, I'm entertained already and the season hasn't even started yet :D Carson Palmer deserves a raise.

Holt is TO for the Pats - a once great WR who is no longer a difference maker but might fill a role. He just doesn't come with the circus TO brings.

Reports are that TO can double his 2m salary if he catches 100 passes for 1300 and 14 TDs. It goes an extra million to 3m if the numbers are 60/900/10. He is not a guy I would ever want on my team with that type of deal where his personal stats are potentially worth 50 to 100% more $ to him than he makes without them. Nothing like setting the stage for him to implode on you before he ever steps on the field.
