Jets fans should be hoping for an Eli Manning sort of development out of Sanchez. His first "season" was only half a season as he came in for Warner, but he was worse than Sanchez.

Agreed, that's probably the best-case modern comparable. Now, if you ask Jets fans if they'd be satisfied with Manning's career arc to date from Sanchez, you'd get a resounding no.

I'd be terribly unsatisfied with a Super Bowl MVP.

Streaky is a bit generous. He was very below average. But streaky implies that he showed potential and great talent, which he did. Just look at the 2nd Pats game. He throws 4 picks, but he had that one great throw to Cotchery deep down the right sideline, into the windy end zone. Not many QB's can make that throw in the league.

jeez....how much of a blind homer can one person be?...31-14....how many QB's could have done better than THAT disaster???

"even though he screwed the pooch and his team was humiliated, did you SEE that throw he made!!!! Wow!!!! No that's why we Jets fans love our team!!!! You will learn to fear us in these blowout losses!!!!

no question, the Gut has the franchise rights to this product...

I hate being late to a party. I step out for a couple of hours and you're turning the forum into a Jets site. I'm humbled. Thanks guys!

Am I missing something, is there some reason for this ridiculously stupid thread:confused:

And BradyFTW starting it just really surprises me unless there is something I'm missing:confused:

I don't really care too much about QB rating. I care about winning a Super Bowl. 41 years and counting.

The Super Bowl is irrelevant when we're talking about QB talent/skill progression. Manning won a Super Bowl because his team got hot around him and he played well down the stretch. He didn't win it because he turned into an awesome QB by the time 2007 rolled around.

Sure, you can hope for a Dilfer or Manning Super Bowl scenario, but that's not really what we're talking about on this thread, as I'm sure you realize.

Actually, as long as Rex Ryan is here, Sanchez won't need to be an all pro for the Jets to win the big one - he very well could be Dilfer/Eli. I still think he'll be better than Eli though.

You wouldn't disagree with the sentiment that Rex will always have this defense at the top, right?

It's a good thing they still will be able to run the football. Ferguson, Mangold, Moore, Ducasse aren't going anywhere. Woody is still extremely good in the run game, but is older. And Shonn Greene is the real deal. Anyway, the Jets should still be a good running team for the next two seasons. This should give Sanchez more than enough time to develop into an upper-echelon QB.
I wouldn't be so sure of that. Shonn Greene is still a question mark. He had one good game and needs gaping holes in order to be effective. Sanchez will never be an upper-echelon QB (at least not with the Jets).
Now onto your next point, him hating being blitzed. Please watch the AFC Championship game again. Dwight Freeney was running at him in a straight line and he threw a pump fake at him to buy time, then hit Edwards down the left sideline on a perfect bomb. 80 yard touchdown. His second touchdown was just as impressive. He knew he was going to get drilled, but he hung in the pocket to throw another perfect pass, this time to Dustin Keller.
Every QB gets lucky from time to time. Don't count on that happening on a regular basis.

You can't. It's a trick question.

However, I will say this. 15 of his 20 INT's came in 4 games.
So what's your point? What, do those 4 games not count just because Sanchez sucked in them? IIRC, those 4 games were spread out pretty even throughout the season so don't sit there and talk about how "streaky" he is.

The Jets have fantastic talent at every other position. I am just glad their QB sucks royally, or else I'd be worried they might actually make a run.
Sanchez has shown great potential, and had his best game of the season on the biggest stage. It was in defeat, but not many teams have been able to beat Indianapolis recently.
Ryan Leaf and Jeff George have great potential too. And if your best statement supporting Sanchez is the Indianapolis win - a game which the Colts virtually forfeited since they treated it like an early August preseason game - then you have damned them with faint praise far beyond anything I could ever say.

Shonn Greene was the best running back in college FB in '08 in a power conference. Gaping holes? He creates them when he bounces tacklers off of him. Plus, this line knows how to create gaping holes. They made Thomas Jones a 1400 yard rusher.

He had at least 3 very good games right off the top of my head, and two of them were playoff games against good defenses.

Next point: Luck. Great rebuttal.

My point was that it was going to be a rocky road for the kid. Lots of highs and lows, very unsteady. He should become more consistent and limit the picks now that he has a much better understanding of the system and opposing NFL defenses. You guys are really relentless. The guy was a rookie. LOL

I was talking about the AFCC, not the week 16 Indy forfeit.

Like I said... If the Jets had an average QB (see Trent Dilfer circa 2000) then I might be worried. Fortunately they have Sanchez, which instills fear into the hearts of no one.

I apologize for misunderstanding. I didn't realize you were pointing to a game the Jets loss by a sizable margin in game that wasn't even as close as the score indicates as evidence of Sanchez' talent.

The Colts have that guy named Peyton Manning, he was the difference. As an individual performance, Sanchez had his most impressive game against the Colts in defeat.

Hey whatever helps you sleep at night is fine by me. But as a Patriots fan, I pray for the continued health and physical well being of Mark Sanchez.

Can't wait to re-visit this thread when Sanchez is sucking it up and Jets fans are freaking out when the Pats take over the division yet again.

Ryan will have the defense at the top if he has the players. Without Revis in that defensive backfield last season, the Jets would probably have been in the bottom 3rd of the league defensively. On the other hand, the Patriots had a horrible linebacker group, a spotty defensive backfield, and a RDE position that was an enormous weakness just waiting to be exploited (Just ask the Ravens), yet the Patriots were still in the top 5 in scoring defense. That's the difference between a system like Ryan's and the one the Patriots run.
