Comcast NE Sports Tonight @ 6:30 pm when asked to predict the surprises of this camp, Troy Brown said, on the upside Kevin Faulk looks better than he has in years. He is under 200 LBS and looks quicker and shiftier.

On the downside his surprise cut of camp pick is Laurence Maroney.

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

I almost laughed when brown said that... No way he will get cut. Morris and taylor are walking injuries. Sorry I don't want BJGE carrying the load this year

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

I am not surprised with that. I do not know how much more you could possibly accomplish when you are benched during a playoff game.

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

Misleading title, to say the least. There's a difference between tossing him out there as a 'surprise candidate' (that happens every year), and stating that it's actually going to happen.

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

It would be ******ed when all it leaves you with is two old, injury prone guys (Taylor and Morris), Faulk and a journeyman. Morris or Taylor is far more likely to be gone IMO although I expect all 4 to make it. The only out I give myself on saying it would be ******ed is if Maroney has a terrible problem with fumbling in the pre-season but despite the bad timing of some fumbles last year he generally hasn't been a fumbler. I would be bitterly disappointed if this were to happen.

Also agree with BFTW, this thread title is awful.

if maroney is cut i will LMAO when all the pats RB's are over 30 and taylor, and morris, are injured by mid season and the only RB's on the roster are law firm and kevin faulk, who is not and never was a ever down RB.

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

"Troy. It's Bill. Hey look — I need to light a nice big fire under Maroney's butt, so next time you do that media thing, stir it up a bit, OK?"

"You got Bingo, Bill."

"Thanks, Troy."

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

.
If Maroney gets cut, then that 2006 draft class was the worst ever under Belichick, and the reason why we've had a championship drought.

Maroney has shown flashes that he can play, and is improving as a runner by hesitating less in the backfield, but he still is nowhere close to earning a new contract paying starter-level running back money after his current contract expires this year.

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

Wouldn't make sense, who's out there that would top his production for equal/less salary than his?

Agreed with the above posters who thinks the thread title is misleading

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

I see Maroney as one of the most important players on the team. All we have behind him is age and injury. He's the only back on the roster than can take a handoff and break one for 50.

I would say every running back on the roster not named Kevin Faulk is much more likely to be cut that than Maroney.

Absolutely. Again the headline is misleading. It's OK to speculate about the chess master being a surprise cut, but the odds are WAY against such a suicidal move.

Re: Troy Brown: Maroney to be cut

The headline is definitely misleading and Brown didnt even really say he expects Maroney to be cut. He was very hesitant to even give a name when asked who his "surprise cut" would be. He said Maroney if he has a terrible TC/pre season.

The chances of this happening are less than 5%. I expect a very big year from Maroney. He ran very hard the middle to end of last year, and he is playing in the final year of his contract. He is going to want to prove himself to the Pats and the rest of the league.

I guess we just have different takes on the interview. It sounded to me, when I saw the interview, as if Troy thought it would happen. Sounds as if you saw the interview differently.

I believe Troys quote was something along the lines of, 'this could be his last preseason here, I could definately see that happening'. Not a definite cut, but more likely than not.

But you know that that most likely refers to the fact that this is the last year of his contract, simply meaning that unless he performs well in the 2010 regular season and playoffs, he may well not be re-signed next season.

The question asked to Troy Brown was........"Who will be the surprise cut of this training camp? " Troy Brown answered........"Laurence Maroney".

No, he said that if Maroney had a bad preseason then this could be his last one here. You are being mislead by what he said.

Sorry. Thats not what I heard. I have it TIVO'd. I'll go back and check the exact words and post back.

Even if your interpretation is right, and Troy does think that Maroney will be cut, the title is still misleading. Saying "Maroney to be cut" indicates that he's stating it as a fact, and defiitely not just speculating (which is what he was doing).

All predictions aside, this RB group will absolutely be gutted after this season, Superbowl or not. Still crossing my fingers for Mark Ingram.
