It Is What It Is Mortensen on D&C: Brady ‘not happy’ with contract

“Why would we expect Tom to be happy making $6.5 million? It’s not like they’re going out there and signing a bunch of free agents to truly make this team better,” Mortensen said.

When asked about the AFC East in 2010, Mortensen replied: “If I were rating this division right now, I would be rating it: 1. Jets, 2. Dolphins, 3. Patriots, with all three having a chance to go to the playoffs and filling up all the playoff spots.”

Also, from the standard "no, it couldn't be because I'm just making **** up, it's because I'm a mind-reader and I can tell what guys are thinking but not saying" dept.:

That’s never been Tom Brady’s style and it’s like this, there may be times … where I was unhappy about something, but I don’t necessarily say something publicly. Tom loves the game of football, he wants to win. He’ll always handle it like a pro, but I trust very much in the people that I talk to that he has not been happy about this situation, but it’s not the way he’s going to go about doing business here with this football team.

Here he is, getting ready to start a season and he’s scheduled to make $6.5 million and on principle alone, he’s not happy. [

Keep up the good work, Mort. I swear, if the guy ever reports something correctly, I'll be downright shocked.

That's just some small, cherrypicked stuff- definitely worth heading over to read the full trainwreck.

Back in the days when I could stomach watching ESPNs pre-game shows, I always thought it was funny when their talking heads, all in their shiny suits and on their shiny set, would cut to a "news" report by "Mort." He wouldn't have a jacket on, sleeves rolled up, sparse set. Because, you know, he's a working journalist. Riiiggghhht.

De Ja Vu ;) The media will not give up!

Mort was 2 weeks late to this nonstory, only to be completely negated by Schefter's report 2 days later. I love how the rest of the media fuels off of this and says "Brady's potential holdout" when it was nothing more than media speculation. This is why I no longer watch ESPN.

Give me Mike Reiss, NFL Net's Playbook shows and the weekly Brady/BB radio interviews (and of course PatsFans) and I"m all set.

Sun rises in the East!
Of course I'd too speculate that Tom is most likely 'not happy' about the lack of a new contract. No you-know-what Sherlock. But he's rational enough to understand the environment, lack of new CBA that exacerbates the impasse.

See Manning and that other guy who beat Manning in the SB.

Mike Reiss = ESPN

Mike Reiss = ESPN

Now isn't that IRONIC. I think the thing that pisses me off the most, is that fact that these guys will NEVER admit that they are wrong. Here is Mort, who was proven wrong on this matter by several sources, "kinda sorta" admits he was.....maybe a bit off base.....BUT he still knows (somehow) that Brady is quite upset and the Pats better do something. :rolleyes;

Let's just hope they don't ruin home. He's done very well at staying himself.

I don't think we have to worry about that. ESPN already has more than a few guys willing to play the "uninformed knuckledragger reporting rampant speculation as facts" role. Guys like that are a dime a dozen.

OTOH, they have only a few real assets with actual sources, who they went to great lengths to hire away from other organizations (Schefter and Reiss, for starters). As dumb as ESPN seems to be sometimes, I don't see why they'd bother bringing them into the fold, if not to let them keep doing what they do best.

He might write for them, but he is not part of the Sportscenter spin machine that creates and refutes stories entirely on their own. That's what I don't watch.

FTW

I wouldn't get too upset. What's he suppose to say?

Mort- " Ha,Ha, Ha.... They got us again. Remember in 2007, when all of us media idiots were reporting Randy Moss was going to get cut? Just think, a rumour started and just like the idiots we are; we ran with it and then Moss went out an hammered the Jets. Ha,Ha,Ha....."

This was a setup.

Brady gives the standard "I'm not happy" thing to the media like every star does.

The mediots run with it. This morhs into a holdout.

Talks go forward in private along with speculation in public.

A story with actual facts comes out a few days before camp to end speculation on the situation.

The idiot media is dumbfounded. They keep digging a cred hole.

Could be their plan to water down every journalist with an ounce of ability so they actually bring up their level of current reporting (narrowing the gap)? That plan is so insidious it's almost genius.

But, the reality, they probably find themselves on the outside looking in with NE and are trying to rebuild some credibility and get a foot back in the door. after all the patriots news does drive a fair amount of traffic one way or the other.

As sure as the sun will rise tomorrow morning, Brady will eventually sign a new deal and retire a Patriot. This is the biggest non-story I have ever heard.

If I was Kraft I wouldnt sign Brady untill the Golden boy(Manning) gets his contract. The Colts may want to overpay for one guy but Kraft doesnt
