There are only three contract situations left.
BRADY is on his way to an extension.
MCCOURTY should be done within a week.
MANKINS is the only bad news of the offseason.
===============================
Let the competition begin!

Through all of this stuff about Brady being unhappy with his contract, I've taken a "not too worried about it" stance, but hearing that things are moving along I find myself greatly relieved.

Now we just need BB to hold the "get your butt in here or I'll trade you to the Raiders... don't think I won't, just look at Seymour" card over Mankins' head...

Mankins cannot be traded to raiders. He is not under contract to the patriots. If he sits out, it is not clear what his situation will be next year. If the RFA rules of the new CBA are the same as the old, Mankins will be a free agent next year, after holding our for a year.

Yeah, I was just kidding... just trying to be funny. I guess I should have included this guy -:rolleyes:- to indicate that.

If he sits out this season, then there is any sort of delay to the start of the 2011 season, he will have not played a game in over 20 months. Does he really think he'll get better than $7 million a year then?

There is no way to know what Mankins and his agent are thinking. Perhaps he would like to play somewhere else for the next four or five years. Also, no one has seen the patriot offer. I suspect the issue for Mankins may be as much about guaranteed money as about total compensation.

In any case, if the team is convinced that Mankins is willing sit out, they MAY re-review their options after finishing the negotiations with McCourty and Brady. In a few weeks, the coaches will understand their guard situation better. Mankins may be worth more to the team that what was previously offered, or not.
