Have we reached the time to again talk about the future of Matt Light? Bruschi doesn't think any of the tackles are right for LG, so we now have four OT's, plus a developmental backup.

Personally, I think that Kaczur is a fine RT and continues to develop, as Bruschi indicated. Vollmer is clearly our future at LT, isn't he? LeVoir is capable of backing up both tackle positions.

I just can't see Belichick benching Kaczur at RT in order to play the man of declining play skills, Matt Light.

Isn't it Belichick who gets rid of veterans one year before their time? Would it make sense to trade Light for whatever we can get.

I would be fine with Light and Kaczur as starters, and with LeVoir and Welch as backups. We would have our tackles fin place or the next three years. Perhaps we should make the key move now, and aid in Vollmer's development.

We have issues this year, and for the next two, in the interior line positions. The tackles seem fine.

How much more can a 30 year old tackle develop? The only thing Kaczur does is decay and get slower.

I would say yes if Mankins was under contract. But I would rather not have to change the entire left side of the line wholesale. I would rather have disruption at one position rather than two. And I say one, because I think Vollmer would start at RT this season regardless of the Mankins situation.

Weird analysis. This post is similar to the "where do we play Vollmer post". Vollmer is better than Kaczur and Light can't play RT (supposidly). Therefore, Kaczur gets benched.

Unless Vollmer regresses during camp, you'd have to be a moron not to play him this season.

Assuming Mankins is gone (and that might be a premature assumption at this early date), my ideal scenario would be to have Volmer at LT. Light at LG. Koppen at C. Neal at RG, and Kazcur at RT. But I'd be OK with Kazcur at LG with Light and Volmer as the 2 tackles. Both those scenarios get our 5 best OLmen on the field at the same time.

IMHO Light can be as good a LG as Mankins. IMO, while Light has been a very good, but not elite LT, he very well could have been an elite LG. With Kazcur at LG there would be a drop off, but I think he could be as good a LG that we've had play there the last decade not named Mankins.

1.) As of the end of last season, Matt Light was the best offensive tackle the Patriots had.

2.) No new offensive tackles have entered the mix.

3.) Light's salary is quite reasonable (4.5 mill for a quality LT).

4.) At 32 years of age, Light's not bringing back a 1st and 3rd for the rights to him on an expiring contract.

If the team believes that Matt Light is still performing at the level of a quality LT and that he is projected to be better than Vollmer in 2010, then there is no issue.

I liked Vollmer better than Light last year, however, Light is still pretty good and having Vollmer play right and leave Light at left seems to make the most sense. On the other hand, I have never been a fan of Kaczur.

Light still has 2 or 3 good years left in him... speed has never been his biggest asset and so the age should not affect him as much as a speedy LT.

There should be no issue at LT as long as the team feels that Light will perform well in 2010, regardless of whether or not the team projects Light to be better than Vollmer.

.

Bruschi can be wrong about Kaczur not working out at LG.

I can take a look at a steak by putting my head up a bull's ass but wouldn't you rather trust the butcher's word on it??

out of all the strange, yet funny things you have said over the years,,,,,,this might be the best one :D

Matt Light is THE starting LT. He needs to stay right where he is. Why are so many on this board convinced that Light should be traded, or moved to another position? Why do people think Vollmer should be starting at LT? Personally, i think he will be very good someday, but nothing i saw last year makes me think he should replace Light this year.
