I think the line is better at pass than run. But the only reason they are any good at all is Brady and his quick decision/release. Take him away and they are barely adequate at both. They need help at Center and R Guard. An if Mankins sits....

We have one of the top 5 RG's in the league.

Is Moss only OK beacuse Brady plays on the same team? Of course not! Would Moss have great production at Oakland? Of course not!

We are judging the PATRIOT offensive line, playing for the patriots, with Brady as quarterback and with the runners we have running tha ball. If we had a Dillon running for us, our OL would be higher ranked as run blockers. HOWEVER, it is what it is. We have an OL. The question is how good they are, given where they play.

And yes, Deus makes a fine point. We are assuming health.

This is the greatest indictment of Connolly that I have yet seen. If you are right, then we VERY, VERY badly need to sign or trade for a backup offensive lineman.

Wish I could rank top 5, but unsure if we make it there since Mankins is holding up. Not to mention plugging his spot with ok backups, and im still not convinced we have the right side stabilized with Kaczur. So that puts us somewhere between 6-10

Kaczur is as good a RT as we have had since Belichick arrived, not counting Vollmer, or did you prefer Gorin and Ashworth. Kaczur has been a starter at LT and RT since his rookie year. It is NOT about stabilizing the right side. Kaczur has been there for four years. Belichick and Dante liked him enough to give him a fine extension contract (when many here wanted to cut him). There is little reason to believe that Kaczur is a weakness at RT. A healthy Neal is certainly not a weakness at RG. He is one of the top 5 RG's in the league.

I'd say it's more saying how good that Stephen Neal is.

The Line falls apart without Neal.

Kaczur looks terrible without Neal whereas he looks good when Neal plays.

I don't think the play of the Line would drop a massive amount if Kaczur took Mankins place

in 2007 pretty much the same line gave up 21 sacks last year again pretty much the same line gave up 18 sacks. but in 2008 with out brady they gave up 48 sacks

The 2008 sacks thing is an unfair argument, IMO. The season began with Cassel learning on the job and Neal out (with terrible replacements). The numbers improved dramatically over the course of the season, most notably after Neal's return to the starting lineup.

Mankins, Neil and Vollmer are all top 5 players at their positions (counting Vollmer at RT).

Light, Koppen and Kaczur may have slipped a touch, but they are all in the top half in the league at their respective positions.

LeVoir and Connly are probably average backups. And there's a decent amount of developmental talent. Let's assume 1 of the group of Orhnburger, Bussey and Welsch becomes a viable backup.

Overall that is a very good group. Top 5, both in depth and talent (assuming Mankins plays). Without Mankins, probably still a top 10 group.

I am certainly a Kaczur fan, but I don't pin my hopes on Kaczur being anything but an average LG. He is not Mankins.

I didn't say he had to play on Mankins' level. Nor did I say that he could. Just do a commendable job of replacing him (i.e. - better than Connolly did last year replacing Neal, which was not commendable). Once again, try reading my actual quotes.

I concur with top-5 when healthy, not top-5 when Neal is out. Mankins signing would be huge, making Kaczur an ideal swing-man at basically any position other than center (but ideally Vollmer to LT and Kaczur to RT if Light is hurt).
