Prayers go out to Bill Cowher and his family for the passing of his wife Kaye

Kaye Cowher, the wife of former Steelers football coach Bill Cowher, died Friday in her native North Carolina after losing a battle with skin cancer. She was 54.

The Cowhers moved to Raleigh, N.C., in 2006, Mr. Cowher's final season coaching the Steelers, and continued to make it their home.

Kaye Cowher, wife of former Steelers coach, dies at age 54

Re: Kaye Cowher

Glad that he retired from coaching when he did. Condolences to the family.

Re: Kaye Cowher

Sad news :( Thoughts to the Cowhers.

Puts his decision into proper perspective; he's earned respect as a coach and as a man.

Re: Kaye Cowher

Wasn't even aware that she was sick. This pretty much blows up one poster's theory that Cowher left because he couldn't deal with Roethlisberger and Holmes. My condolences go out to the Cowher family.

Re: Kaye Cowher

Classy guy, I could see his reasoning, he didn't want people saying that he left because of her, she didn't need to deal with that too. Too bad, they have like three daughters too. very sad.

Good that she was alive to enjoy her husbands glory career moment following superbowl win - that embrace with cower and family the win was heart warming.

Cower is a class guy and we can all offer him thoughts and prayers.

Re: Kaye Cowher

Wow. I can't imagine losing my wife at 54 and raising three daughters, granted they are in college. And for the daughters, who won't have a mother to support them on their wedding day or the day they have their first child, I imagine it will be tough.

My thoughts are with the Cowher family.

Re: Kaye Cowher

Wow. Sad news, and 54 is way too young.
Bill always seemed like a decent enough guy.
Condolences.

Re: Kaye Cowher

That is sad news. It always looked like family meant a great deal to Cowher given his wife and kids' presence at major events, and he looks all the smarter for leaving to spend time with the family (I recall his declared focus in leaving was his kids) in light of this.

Not sure. Malignant melonoma often acts fast

Re: Kaye Cowher

Condolences to the Coach and his daughters. A very sad loss. Way too young
for a Wife and Mother to pass. RIP Kaye, you did a wonderful job with your
family.

Re: Kaye Cowher

condolences - melanoma is brutal - my mother died from it - 6 weeks from initial diagnosis to the end.

Re: Kaye Cowher

Bill was always a respectable man, even if he was with the Squeelers. Sad to see that type of heartache on someone so young.

Re: Kaye Cowher

They have my sympathies too. I lost both my mom and my aunt to breast cancer when they were each 58, and I thought that was too young; she was only 54.

I have to wonder if this is why he didn't return to the NFL last year? There were rumors flying around that he would go to either Carolina or Cleveland but he didn't go anywhere.

I know - one of my good friends lost his mom to it a few months ago, and she passed unbelievably quick, in just a matter of months from the time they found it. She was also in her early 50's.

I lost my grandfather to it, and I had a growth removed from the top of my ear last year, and I'm only 34. It's definitely a scary thing.

Just a tragic thing to hear anytime anyone loses someone so young, and our thoughts go out to him. That scene after they won the Super Bowl was quite a moment. Just goes to show how short life really is :(
