Magic Johnson Says He Wouldn't Have Joined Bird After LeBron James's Move - Bloomberg

Basketball hall of famer Magic Johnson said he never would have joined with Larry Bird to win a championship the way LeBron James is teaming with Dwyane Wade.

Johnson, who won five National Basketball Association championships with the Los Angeles Lakers, joins fellow hall of famer Michael Jordan in saying they would focus more on beating their rivals than joining them.

“We didn’t think about it cause that’s not what we were about,” said Johnson, whose Michigan State squad beat Bird’s Indiana State team in the 1979 National Collegiate Athletic Association championship. “From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird.”

Michael Jordan had The Look. Then there was The Shot. Now there's The Dis.

Haven't you heard? His Airness is dismayed by LeBron James's contentious decision to take his talons—wait, did he say talons, or talents?—to South Beach. The man who bequeathed the planet "Space Jam" considers cohabitating with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to be tacky, unbecoming, nouveau, un-Mike-like.

"There's no way, with hindsight, I would have ever called up Larry, called up Magic, and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team,' " Mr. Jordan said the other day. "In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys."

basically the same thing, but with more bad words.

LeBron James Is A Peckersucker

500x_jamespresser.jpg

Tomorrow is the day LeBron James becomes the most unlikable person in the NBA, and perhaps all of American sports. I used to think he was okay a year ago. No more. He's the villain now. It doesn't matter where he opts to go. If he goes to Chicago, he's a ****sucker. If he goes to Miami, he's a ****sucker. Even if he goes back to Cleveland, he's a goddamn ****sucker. He's a self-aggrandizing sack of ****, and ESPN is a bunch of *****-whipped enablers for giving him a free hour of airtime tomorrow night and inevitably using 55 minutes of it to let Stu Scott give him a rimjob.

Look at what Kevin Durant did today. He signed an extension well before he could have filed for free agency, announced the signing, and then went back about his business.

He didn't need all this dog-and-pony show bull****. James does, and that means he's a dip****. People have been kissing this man's ass SINCE ******* MIDDLE SCHOOL, and he still needs this hourlong AFI tribute special? Bull****. BULL****.

Jordan probably blew a couple of million dollars betting that LeBron would go to the Bulls.

Is this the first time we have agreed on something? :p

What Jordan said was absolutely true. He never would've sought out a guy who won a ring by dragging his teammates to victory and defected to his team. Lebron has relinquished any right to be mentioned amongst the greatest of all time in this move. He's not a competitor or a winner.

I'll say it again, Lebron is a loser. He hasn't learned to win - he hasn't experienced competition at a high-level. He's been treated as a god his entire basketball life. One of the reasons Tiger Woods is so good is b/c his father never let him get ahead of himself. So Tiger played all the junior tournaments, dominated, experienced victory and competition at each level progressively. It made him mentally strong and value winning above all else. I think Lebron lacks that kind of experience, and may never recover.

I just want to go on record - I said I wouldn't want Lebron on the Celtics (if that were somehow possible) months ago. I really just don't think this guy is as good a basketball player as he thinks he is.

Uh huh. And I believe you when you say that you'd rather have Paul Pierce.

Well, I never took it that far. But I'd rather have Rondo to build my team around than Lebron. If you're going to have a player who is only an asset moving towards the basket, you're better off having it be a 1 than a 3. Especially a selfish, show-boating 3 who has yet to learn to make his teammates better.

I think people are starting to realize the fundamental holes in Lebron's game. Ironically, Miami has paired him with a 2 guard who attacks the same areas of the court he does. We'll see how that works out. One or both of those guys is going to have to improve their outside shooting.

I think what has held LeBron back is his intelligence on the court. He doesn't seem to have what Kobe has, what Magic and MJ had. His feathers get easily ruffled when teams have time to draw up opposition to what he does.

He either at that point needs to raise his game up (but he doesn't shoot well enough) or he needs to make his teamates better (he does not know how). Wade has the smarts to do it ... if Lebron goes along for the ride he will win a ring ... if he wants to be his old self ... well he won't win anything. If he plays the James Worthy role or the Kevin McHale role down low ... he'll be fine. If he want to be MJ, Kobe or Bird forget about it ... it won't happen.

Over the past few years, LeBron has sunk more game winning three point shots than Kobe Bryant has. Take that how you want it. But I would much rather have him that a guy who is a good ball handler but can't hit a free throw or a wide open shot to save his life. In Game 7, Rondo was almost a liability for the Celtics because the Lakers were leaving him WIDE open on the floor and dared him to beat them by sinking a shot. Aside from what was a miracle three by the time the game was already over, he couldn't do it. Do I even have to bring up his free throw shooting?

To bring up fundamental flaws in LeBron's game while ignoring the GAPING holes in Rondo's does not make sense to me. By the way, Dwyane Wade is a much better three point shooter than he was a few years back.

I've said from day one that this needs to be Wade's team.

I am not sure that ever happens...Lebron is a prima donna and while Wade may be the best choice to lead the team I don't believe he will be able to set aside his ego to let that happen.

That's why they play the games though, right?
