5) I don't think that there is any reason to keep all three, unless Pryor is kept as a developmental future starter.

6) Which of the three would you cut? My choice is Pryor.

Above is exactly why I don't want to see Pryor cut. He's ineligible for the PS, but he showed enough that at least one team was willing to trade for him before LAST season started.

I think Lewis is cut. He had half a sack last season, and PFF gave him no sacks, meaning he was more than likely the second guy to get to the QB on that play. Assuming that he is no better than 4th on the DE depth chart (I assume after Warren, Warren, and Wright), then he has to be a very good subpackage rusher to earn his spot, and he didn't show much last year of his 408 rushes primarily out of the 4-3, so I don't have overly high hopes. I think Warren and Warren start, Wright is the primary backup at DE, and Pryor earns a spot as a nickel rusher. Plus Wilfork and Brace at NT, of course.

The battle for defensive line roster spots is going to be interesting. Only one or two sure fire locks, IMO, with lots of competition between Veterans, a couple backups, and a healthy bunch of unproven young guys.

This is my prediction. Deaderick is a definite practice squad candidate though. Depends if Bill thinks he can get him there.

How could you know who to cut before camp? Two of them have never played here or in a 3-4, I don't think.

I'd rather see who makes the team and if anyone but our top three showed anything last year, Pryor did. I agree Pryor is a project who will only be cut if he stops progressing.

I don't see why you would cut Pryor since he brings something nobody else does, explosion up-field from an interior line position. That goes for off the nose and from at DT when they switch to a 4-3. Also if they wanted to one gap their 3-4 once in a while I think he's a natural. Also with another year of strength conditioning and coaching up on technique I think he's going to see more playing time this year contingent on staying healthy as he was banged up a lot last year.

I agree that Lewis and Warren are competing for that last spot.

I should have clarified. Most years we can make some judgments based on players that were less than stellar, or getting a bit old, compared to new picks or acquisitions.

This year we have two years of tons of draft picks and two 4-3 vets trying to convert to 3-4.

We don't know how successful they'll be converting, or if they might rotate, each offering different strengths.

To say we should cut one know,I have to ask why? Of all the backup linemen in question, Pryor has looked pretty good. He's better suited for a different system, but he's quick as hell and we do use different rush packages.

Just don't see how we can judge until we see how this works and especially say we'll drop anyone because a 7th rounder needs the spot.

There are a few positions that can be projected based on our knowledge of the players involved, but not a lot this year.

Yes to the above. I'd be prepared to have a modest wager that Myron Prior, if healthy, makes the team.

Seriously, these pre-camp discussions, interesting though they are, run right against the Patriots' way of doing things. It's pretty clear that they themselves have an open mind about personnel going into camp.

Instead of putting all their eggs in one basket, saying "here's our slot, here's our guy -- let's go get him and pay the price" they much prefer to distribute things and hope that one or another pans out. When they needed a safety, for example, drafting Scott and Reid together. This year taking two tight ends. And the same applies to signing free agents/trading for players. Think of Tight End and Wide Receiver last year. That is why camp is crucial.

There is zero chance that Pryor gets cut. Give me one example in BB history, where a rookie comes in and plays that many snaps in his first year, then gets cut his second year?

This is amazing. MGteich says that he thinks Pryor will get cut, and the board thread goes 16 posts to zero against him. 16 - 0 ! Amazing. I didn't think we could all agree 16 - 0 whether it was raining or not.

The board of 16 decided that we will have 8 defensive linemen on the starting 53. I believe that Pryor is more of likely of being cut than the team keeping EIGHT defensive linemen.

The GROUP OF SIXTEEN decided that Deaderick will be on the 53 man roster instead of the Practice Squad, even before anyone is injured. Last year PRYOR step up in Training Camp and was able to secure a roster spot and play 27% of the reps.

A REALITY CHECK
Please list the rookies 6th or 7th round draft choice who was waived in the past 5 years and were picked up by another team, preventing a team from puttin him on the Practice Squad. Deaderick will make the Practice Squad. If someone is injured and he has a great Training Camp and perseason, he could make the team. But now is not the time to predict injuries.

I don't believe we will have one replacement for Seymour, I think Lewis and Warren will rotate depending on situation and also so they can go all out and stay fresh.

There is no replacement for Seymour and nothing close unless they hit the lottery with Oakland's pick, though i don't know if there's such a beast available.

Suh would have been interesting, I'd guess.

I don't think you hold roster spots for 7th round picks, so who else besides Pryor adds anything?

If Deadrick is a phenom, that might knock off one of the vets, but extraordinary D-linemen aren't usually that overlooked, are they?
