Multiple sources are confirming he's passed after suffering a massive heart attack. As much as I hate the Yankees, it's still tragic. Unreal :(

I will always remember the episode of Saturday Night Live he hosted in the '80s or '90s that opened with the cast finding him asleep in his dressing room, and dreaming that he was playing every position for the Yanks.

As much as I despise the Yankees, I can't bring myself to even make the slightest hint of a joke about this. Guy loved his team. My condolences to the Steinbrenner family.

RIP, George
Amen. Classiest move ( as a Sox fan) was when he told the grounds crew to leave the lights on in Yankee Stadium as long the Sox and their fans wanted to celebrate in '04 when the Sox made their miracle comeback.....

since the other thread went to ****, RIP George!

RIP George ... I have to say I always liked George ... i like what he stood for.

He stood for professionalism and athletes being their best both on and off the field.

He was very much a military man and he tried to adapt some of that to his team.

I remember when he signed Dave Winfield for 10 years and we thought he was crazy.

He said he needed players like that to market the team on cable TV and bring in more income ... he was right

George made my Red Sox better ... no question and he brought passion to our rivalry.

RIP George ... don't outspend the other teams on the other side. ;)

I include a picture of my favorite Yankee manager who hopefully is not arguing with George right now.

He did that?! I didn't know that. That is really cool.

Makes you wonder what Al Davis would do if the Chiefs won the AFCCG in Oakland. "Smithers... release the hounds!"

As a Yankees fan I loved George, even though I was sometimes frustrated by him. His passion, and committement to winning was unquestioned, and is exactly what every fan would love their owner to emulate (think Jacobs and the Bruins for example). The guy made money, and he dumped it right back into his team in order to win. I totally loved and respected that as a fan. The frustration was that his passion would sometimes blind his sensibilities, which would result is some odd moves to say the least. Never the less, what always stood out to me about Mr Steinbrenner, was when I heard him call into the Jimmy Fund telethon, to donate something like $10k, or $25k in cash. That blew me away. As quirky and strange as the man was, he was a big believer in charity, so RIP George.
