Ian guests on this episode, where we cover a range of topics that mostly deal with how and why he built up his site and community. In addition to doing some prep work for training camp, we also discuss some of the bigger stories that came out over the past week, such as D’Brickashaw Ferguson’s new contract, Florio’s typically uninformed article about Tom Brady, and even a few parting words about LeBron.

Also, please feel free to check out the Patriots Reddit that we have created: New England Patriots. Thanks for listening!

I appreciate the fact you guys had me on. Considering the fact no one has ever asked me about this place before in the 10-years I've been doing it, I was nervous as hell, and my mind was racing throughout the whole thing. So hopefully I didn't stammer too badly throughout it.

All in all I just hope everyone recognizes the fact that it's all of you who make this place what it is, and when I was asked what "I did" with the site to make it what it is - it's funny, as I thought about it I have to say I really can't take credit for what all of you bring to this place. It wouldn't be what it is without you guys, and having been through the times where no one was here - I can't express enough how much I'm glad all of you come and hang out here each day. Not too many people get to become friends with so many great individuals, so this whole experience has made me feel very fortunate. Hopefully we can continue to keep it going for a long time

You totally owe us a sneak peek at the admin forum after taunting us like that ;)

Sorry - employees only

man...talk about memory lane...I remember Zip had a site too...and the old NEPats board that ran independent of the official (crap) Pat site...when that went down, most of the people there migrated to patsfans...remember the guy from Japan, I think, that had that crazy Pats site? Maybe he was Hawaian? The good ol' days...geez, what a great podcast...thanx to everyone

You're too modest, Ian, you did a great job on the podcast. I think you undersell your own importance to the forum, but either way we've got you to thank for this place being here!

No, that was Patriot Ed - he was in Japan. I'm actually friends with him on Facebook

Zip's site was one of my favorites, as was GoPats.com - which is still there but he hasn't done much with it in a long time, although he recently joined Twitter. I don't know if you remember "Tim's Patriots Page", that one actually had an area where he ranked other fan sites - which was based on the number of flying elvis' next to it. It's what drove me to keep making my original site better.

I felt bad for the guy who ran NEPatriots.com, as he put so much work into it only to eventually be shut him down over the domain and to this day they still own it. I was with Rivals.com I think when that was taken down - I remember it vividly. But a few people from there came over to our forum, and later on we had quite a few from other places that I watched also and it's been a quite a journey ever since.

Also, before anyone says anything (I already got an e-mail on this), I know they got knocked out in the playoffs in '05 against Denver. I was thinking of the year after the first Super Bowl when Brady separated his shoulder and they fell short of the postseason. As Chris Price says - I'll take the penalty lap on that one.

You know what's funny, Ian...I have a diskette with saved bookmarks from Win95 days...it's got links to every Pats fan site that existed back then...let me see if I can dig it out...I remember Tim' site too...seems like decades have gone by

Hahaha, it happens- I suddenly froze up mid-sentence and couldn't for the life of me remember if Wheatley and Wilhite were drafted in '07 or '08. Should have been an easy one to remember, since Meriweather was basically the only guy we drafted in '07, but those slip us happen :p

That would be really cool if you still have that. I'd love to talk about some of those and see if we can't find those in an archive somewhere.

Trouble is that you folks and Ian try to engage your brain when talking on air. Take it from the local media, it isn't necessary.

Seriously, a great podcast -- one that left me feeling warm and cosy. Yes, Virginia, there IS a net community. Now you've brought the great Ian out from behind the curtain, bet you you can't get Miguel! :)

Knowing Miguel I'd be shocked if that ever happened - that's a bet I definitely wouldn't take

Ian = Just a guy with a laptop and too much time on his hands

Believe me, I'll let my wife get on here some day, she'll let you know how she really feels about how much of a "legend" I am.

Your wife doesn't love the fact that you run a website for sports geeks? Well I, for one, am shocked.

I know, I can imagine :D

Consider the amount of time, money, and energy I've put into this place over the past decade, and then come up with a formula to figure out the number of "discussions" we've had regarding it over the years. I would definitely not use the word love to describe her opinion
