Is Maroney a UFA or RFA after this season?

This is Maroney's fifth year. Under this year's uncapped rule, he would be a RFA. Under the rules of the last CBA, he would be an UFA. It all depends if the new CBA will go back to the 4 year RFA rules or move to six years like it was this year.

Maroney is the Tony Allen of the Patriots. All physical potential. Some truly sparkling moments that puncuate a less than stellar career. Ultimately disappointing. The Pats brass will let him walk like Ainge let TA. Buh-Bye.

I'd be willing to bet that the RB position gets the same attention in next years draft that the back eight of the Defense got in the last 2 drafts. They're going to devote at least 2 high picks (Rds 1-3) to that position. Kevin Faulk will need to groom his replacement. Taylor and Morris will be long gone. BJGE will be too, I'd bet. Time for a transfusion of young blood at RB.

Couldnt agree more. We could possibly have an entirely different RB core next season. Does that ever happen? Where literally every single RB on a team is new to the squad? That'll be bizarre if it happens. Probably wont. We're bound to keep one of two of these guys. Maybe Faulk or Green-Ellis comes back. But our running game is bound to look a whole lot different next season.

I know that would be a sexy pick, but I highly doubt BB uses a high 1st rounder on a RB. Maybe if the rest of the team was stacked, but as I see it now we have present and future openings on both lines, which is the safer option with high picks. We could potentially draft the next Seymour, or Light's replacement, or a Mayo-caliber OLB, all would be better uses of the pick than a RB, IMO.

actually, half these guys may not be here when the season starts........alexander, warren, lewis, woods,mcgowan,burgess could all be sent packing.

beyond that, you have 3 RB's who will simply be too old to consider a FA priority (taylor, faulk, morris)

on that list, only brady, moss, ghostkowski, and light would be any kind of priority

Not necessarily, unless I understand the situarion incorrectly. There could be a strike or there could be a lockout but AFAIK, barring action by the union or owners they could still play.

Let's not forget the WR position as well, our home run hitter, deep threat, Randy Moss will be gone, and it's a great year for tall deep threat receivers.

I still believe the RB by committee wastes roster spots. I'm still hoping we get Mark Ingram, and possibly one more talented new blood in 2011. I understand that the committee does average what the single back offense does in the NFL, but I would love it if our RB's accounted for just three roster spots.
