Please post which players you feel WON'T make this team by the time training camp is over, along with a quick sentence as to why you feel that way. I'm interested to see which names appear here, and please reserve your responses and debate until later on after we've gotten a number of predictions going here.

If the two kids we drafted at TE have solid training camps, I can see Crumpler getting cut considering the ammount that they use them.

David Patten will get buried in the depth chart. I see Holt offering more at this point in their careers.

Should we resurrect the "There's no way David Patten makes this team" thread of several years ago, along with the more recent "There's no way Terrance Nunn makes this team" thread from last year?

But please no BJGE thread ... :)

That's ridiculous ... definitely will not happen as the team needs at least 1 veteran TE.

I was thinking about that, but we've got a lot of new posters who won't get the inside joke with those references

If Taylor Price steps up and Wes Welker is ready to go by week 1, then Torry Holt will get cut. I can't see BB keeping him around with Moss, Welker, Edelman, Price and Tate.

Thw way the Pats use their TEs I wouldn't be suprised

The way our line played last year we really need the old man around.

Patton or Holt
Taylor or Morris
Eric Alexander
Crable finally gets cut

I think Lewis gets cut. He lacks 3-4 DE size (which Gerard Warren has), and Mike Wright and Myron Pryor offer similar skillsets as interior rushers, but are younger. His only chance is if he's so much better than Pryor that he beats him out despite being older, imo.

I think BJGE gets cut. He was never higher than 4th RB, always behind Taylor and Morris. Unless Maroney has improved in that area, I think Morris is the backup 3rd down back. And unless Taylor has lost a lot since last season, he's the #2 running back. I'd much rather have the backups at RB and 3rd down RB than the 4th RB. No matter what, the running backs need to be completely redone next offseason.

And I think Price is stashed on IR this season. He won't be ready to contribute yet.

I assume you mean surprise cuts, so I will not say Farnham, etc.

My two surprise cuts are Sammy Morris and Alge Crumpler.

Not that they are good, but they get cut because of young developmental guys who DO make the team, like Deaderick and Arrington, and because the Pats will go with 7 WRs this year (including Welker) and 10 Olinesmen. They have gone with 7 WRs and 10 Olinesmen before, so it won't be anything new.

I think you may be correct about the RB situation. Many seem to believe the roster will go back to having four RBs rather than 5 RBs, as there was last year. Despite all the playing time Taylor and Morris missed, BJGE still saw almost no offensive snaps. And since the Pats have a ton of first and second year players, his role on special teams can easily be replaced. That means that if the Pats go with four RBs rather than 5, rather than it coming down to either morris or Taylor, BJGE would most likely be the odd man out.

Price going on IR (even though he's not injured) is not that wild of an idea either. Moss, Edelman, Tate and Holt are likely to make the roster, with Welker there either at the start of the season or after coming off PUP. Maybe Welker starts on PUP and somebody goes on IR when Welker rejoins the team.

Possible cuts that would be unexpected to me are (in order from most to least likely):

Fred Taylor
Damione Lewis
Alge Crumpler
Torry Holt
Derrick Burgess

I actually expect to see Taylor cut.

Additionally, some surprise players that might make the roster:

  • Zac Robinson (carrying 2 QBs like last year was a rare occurrence for this team)
  • Thomas Clayton (I watched some preseason footage, although before his injury, and he looked surprisingly good. If Taylor/BJGE/both get(s) cut, he might get in)
  • Shawn Crable (he'll probably stay until the final cuts at least. If he has a good training camp/preseason, and Burgess isn't looking great, I could see this happening)
  • Thomas Williams

There isn't a FB on the roster. This means two things: 1) that five RB make the team 2) that at least three TE make the team. If Alge gets cut, then another vet will be signed. The same would apply to Taylor or Morris.

To the cuts:
1) Damione Lewis and/or Gerard Warren. I don't have faith in first round busts.
2) Sam Aiken. Redundant.
3) Sean Crable.
4) Daryl Richard.
5) David Patton.

PRYOR shouldn't make the team.

We've brought in Warren and Lewis to replace Green and upgrade Pryor. I would be disappointed if they both don't make it and lose one of their roster spots to Pryor.

For new posters, Green-Ellis should be on the unemployment line. Even when we had two injured running backs during 2009, he got almost no reps.

We need four running backs. If Taylor doesn't have anything less, we should sign a street free agent before putting Green-Ellis on the 53.
