Oops: Revis preparing for holdout

You know, it might be a hoot if we could get hundreds of folks to tweet Revis like Sciz did and urge him to hold out for more... WAY MORE, cause, like, he's worth more than any other corner, blah blah blah... The JETS don't appreciate him, and all that stuff.

Could be fun. Wicked fun.

Every fanbase has their share of idiots. Forget 'homers'. This place has them too.

As far as Revis' holdout goes, he simply can't.

He loses the guarantee of the $5 million buyback option next season and the $15 million buyback option in 2012. He's achieved the level of play and amount of snaps necessary to acrue both totals.

If he holds out for the full year, he loses a season of eligibility. Therefore, he wouldn't be a FA until after the 2013 season.

Keep chomping at the bit that you won't have to see Revis this season.

He'll be there.

Keep hoping he dogs it if he does show up. He can't.

There's too much money at stake.

The bolded section is still up in the air, by all accounts. Since the CBA has been opted out of, it's not 100% certain whether the CBA rules re: accruing seasons still apply. At least that's what I recall from reading about Mankins' situation, could definitely be wrong.

Revis would make a pittance this season and risk injury. He would be gone faster than you say Leon Washington if hurt. If he doesnt get his 20 mil, so what? He will get twice that guaranteed in an a new Signing Bonus. Would you risk 20 mil for 40 mil plus salary? I would. Furthermore, Revis sees the handwriting on the wall with the drafting of Wilson.

Believe me, the Jets do not Revis to hold out and be a major distraction throughout the season. After every loss, the NY papers will question whether the Jets would have won with Revis playing. It would be ugly and no NFL team needs that.

Pay him or deal him.

On Sirius NFL Radio they were discussing Revis' potential hold out today in light of how NFL rookie deals are structured. The hosts (forgive me for forgetting who they were) basically said that Revis got an $11 million signing bonus before he ever did a thing on the field and he looks at that bonus as a way to begin to negotiate his next deal. In other words, "If I was worth $11 million before I ever did anything, imagine what I am worth now!" The Jets, however, are not willing to use the $11 million as a reference point. They have their own numbers in mind which, according to the hosts, are nowhere near what Revis wants.

Green Beans management can at least partially blame Jabba Wrecks for helping launch Revis's ego into the stratosphere last season. All that praise heaped on him for being "the best corner in the league" looks to now be backfiring.

It's quite bizarre that we have Al Davis business savvy nature to thank for Darrelle Revis and the cap hell or best player trade they're about to experience at Jesterland.

Crazy Old Al.... NFL super mole.

Its more like Gilligan's Island now.

The Seas are getting rough.

And, with luck, the additions of the SS Gronkowski and Hernandez will make them even choppier. . . . :D

What was the term I heard on PatsCast? It's something about how players win a championship and then want to be paid accordingly. The problem is that the Jets were a 7-7 team that was handed two wins to make the playoffs, and they still expect to be paid like the best ever.

I did send Revis a tweet a while ago telling him that he was worth more than whatever they were offering him, though :lol2:

Disease of more is what Pat Riley coined it, talking about his 80's Lakers teams. As soon as a team wins a championship, everyone starts thinking that they're worth more than they are, and examples are all over the place in modern sports history.

I totally agree that the Jets suffering from the 'disease of more' after barely finishing over .500 is as hilarious as it is unprecedented and sad.

They're just following the example set by their head coach, the glutton. Problem is, there's no such thing as lap band surgery for inflated egos.

sure there is it's calling getting beatdown on the field repeatedly

It is just Hialrious what these players do if it is true that its a million this year then jumps to 20 million hell even ifi t jumps to 10 million why not just play the year out hten get the money. I guess in todays i need it now world thats what they are thinking.

or maybe he took lessons from cromatie and needs money for child support

It is just hilarious when non-players dictate what the real players should do.

Both Revis and Mankins know exactly what they are doing when taking such 'unpopular' steps. In their brutal word where their careers can be done in any play, they are being perfectly rational in trying to maximize their contracts given their current leverage with the team, especially when they think that they are being underpaid compared to their peers.

And for heaven's sake, don't look at the millions you are making and compare it to the billions they are making and wonder why some are unhappy with their existing contracts. The world of professionals is in a different galaxy from that of the fans.

'Child support' and 'putting money on the table' may be clumsy real-world expressions that some ineloquent players might have used without having a clue as to how such phrases rile the common fan and how such comparison is as erroneous as the fan comparing his/her salary with that of the players.

It is not an unknown that as a player under contract if he doesn't show up within the first two weeks of TC under an expiring CBA he will not receive credit for a year of service and he will remain stuck on 3 years even if he plays all of 2010. There is no way the owners are going to agree to UFA after three seasons.
I could see the owners making concessions on this issue - if they got something in return. The owners want a bigger slice of the revenue pie, and if they got that "bigger slice" then it really wouldn't affect them as a group financially if rookies got free agency after 3, 4, 5 or 6 years.

I believe we are going to see some sort of slotting system for draft picks, so letting them hit free agency earlier would make sense.

I don't know the details of his contract, but it sounds to me like his only guaranteed money is his $1 million this year (I am considering that "guaranteed" because the Jets certainly aren't going to cut him this summer). So in his eyes, the remaining 2 years are worthless and he wants a bit more long term security. I honestly can't blame him for his point of view but, as others in here have noted, he probably should have gotten a better agent.

Fatso has has been telling them how great they are on a daily basis.

Hes been boasting and blabbering that Revis is the best D player that hes ever coached. Better than Ed Reed or Murderous Ray Lewis. Well, OK, pay him as such.

Agree 100%

Their stocks are in an upward climb and arguably at the peak right now. They are young and playing at pro bowl levels. 1 play could wipe everything out that theyve accomplished.

NFL network now saying Revis will NOT holdout from camp.

The potential holdout could cut into the guaranteed portion of his remaining contract.

NFL.com news: Contract option will compel Revis to attend Jets' camp

"If Revis were to miss any mandatory time due to a holdout, however, he might lose the guranteed portion of the contract. He would then be under contract for two more years, at $5 million in 2011 and $15 million in 2012. That potential guarantee is something he would not want to risk."

According to the story, Revis can either show up and have 20 million over 2 years, or not show up and have 20 million over 2 years. Since the only reason the Jets would cut Revis rather than pay him 15 million for the second season would be injury, the only 'loss' would be protection from injury risk, which would make him no worse off than a franchised player.

They are really turning into a mess. I actually am starting to feel sorry for them. Even if, by a miracle, they win the superbowl this year, the lack of financial discipline and acumen is going to push them right back to square one, next season and the season beyond.
:nono: Don't EVER feel sorry for the Rats :nono:
