Pat Summerall and John Madden, covering a game in Miami the week before Thanksgiving in 2000 or 2001. They cut back from commercial with a picture of a pelican.

John: That bird better look out this week

Pat: That's a pelican

John: Yeah, but this being Thanksgiving and all

Pat: Not much meat on a pelican

Earlier tonight I saw Laron Byrd's facebook (he plays WR for the Miami Hurricanes). He had this quote in his status: "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard". I thought, cool, and then I saw he credited Lil Wayne with that quote. LOL AWFUL

A couple years ago I was looking back at some of my old Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazines. For those that don't live in Texas, it's the Bible of Texas high school football but it also covers college and to a much smaller extent, the pros.

I found the one from 2001 and checked the NFL section. We were picked to be last place in the division.

"The Patriots will be a disaster in coach Bill Belichick's second season."

Of course none of us expected a Super Bowl that year either, especially after Drew's injury but it still puts a smile on my face to read that.

Along those same lines, I remember reading a Pro Football Weekly in the spring of '01. There was a sidebar article in which anonymous NFL insiders were polled on the subject of which team was least likely to win a Super Bowl in the next five years, and according to those polled, the Patriots were that team. Didn't even take a year for them all to be proved wrong. :D

Left out of the Emmett Smith quotes was my favorite one. He was talking on the pregame about the Bengals and Chad Johnson. He said that is was unfair that Chad was being made an "escape goat" for the Bengals poor start.

Love the other part of Necessary Roughness where they talk about who will take what. "I'll take the O, you take the D".

They then look at the Qb who gives away an easy pick.

"Looks like we'll be playing a lot of D with a quarterback who throws like Edward Scissorhands".
