Matt Light held a football camp for kids aged 7-17 at Merrimack College in North Andover last week. Several other players attended including Patrick Chung, Brandon Meriweather, and Andover resident, Buddy Farnham.

I have several family members who work on campus and they relayed a pretty funny story at a family gathering today. One of them was actually in on it.

Light had worked out a prank with the help of one of the campers and campus police (where an aunt of mine works) to put a little scare into Farnham.

While Farnham was working with one of the 13 year old campers, the kid drops down as if he is hurt and Farnham sends him over to get medical attention. At the end of camp that day, Light and Farnham are walking off of the field and several campus police officers approach the two looking for "Buddy". Farnham acknowledges who he is and the police ask him to get into the cruiser as a parent of the child who went down is filing a complaint that Farnham physically abused the child.

Farnham was appalled. He keeps asking questions about what may have happened, answers every question the officers have for him and then says, "I haven't even played a game yet, What will I tell my mother!?"

Light, meanwhile is "negotiating" with the officers to "make this right." Tickets, autographs, free clinics. "Can we chalk this up to heat? To a guy getting excited about his job? To a rookie prank?"

Farnham stops, his jaw drops. He turns to Light, who grabs him in a bear hug and says, "Welcome aboard, Buddy!"

Hmmmm.... metaphorical?

Good story, hopefully Farnham is a keeper.

WOW !! maybe i'm a prude, but that did not tickle my humerus bone. i must need to lighten up.

Light overdoes the pranking and hazing.

Fortunately, he doesn't overdo it by a lot.

Brilliant.

Matt Light is hilarious.

And I like Farnham, I hope he sticks around on the Practice Squad.

I think he's this years Terrence Nunn.

You're not alone. I think it's the "physically abused child" part that I'm sure must have seriously concerned Farnham. I wouldn't easily laugh off such a prank.

yeah, that's probably why light bear-hugged him. he wanted farnham to cool down for a minute and not fly off the handle.

If Farnham couldn't get away from that bear hug, he would be the only player in 4 years that Light was able to contain.

I'd rather he be this year's Julian Edelman.

I also found this story meh. Maybe next year Light can pretend that a rookie is accused of rape.

Yeah, I have to agree with the Jew here.

Being accused of anything child endangerment related is a serious thing which if nobody heard the joke part could have resulted in major consequences for him down the road. Hell, there's still the mild possibility it could.

I stipulate that yes, I am the consummate wiseass, so it's pot kettle black here. But as much as I like Light and enjoy his humor, this prank was in really poor taste. Not funny.

I think some of you guys are confusing child abuse with child molestation............Not defending real child abusers here but I think it is a little more ok to joke about abuse than molestation.

Still, it isn't something you want to be accused of!

You show me a joke that doesn't atleast toe the line of being offensive to some PC nitwit and I'll show you a joke that isn't all that funny. Doesn't sound like the butt end took too much offense to it, but it would certaintly warrant some sort of attempt at retaliation. Maybe get Lawrence to "fumble" Lights keys down a sewer grate?
