Re: Pat Tillman

Sounds like a small budget documentary, he deserves more that would appeal to the masses...

I'd have to think that if the documentary does good then a feature isn't far off on the horizon.

I certainly hope so, this story needs to be told.

Re: Pat Tillman

What's interesting about PT is how he resisted being moulded into a Hollywood biopic patriotic action hero (and how his family have continued with that after his death). He was obviously a very thoughtful and unusual man. If this tells his story as he would have seen it, then I would love to watch it, whatever the budget.

I wonder if it will feature a certain professional football coach ...

In my experience, those are the better-made ones.

Slight O/T

If anyone is interested in a world-class documentary about the fight in Afghanistan, then RESTREPO is it.

It's the story of one platoon of "B" co, 503rd Infantry regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade. They were assigned to an outpost in the Korengal Valley, one of the most advanced positions in the 173rd's Area of Operations.

There are no actors. Everything is actual footage, taken over almost a year's time with these men by two veteran reporters. This is combined with some post-deployment interviews with the soldiers. However, there is no agenda, no interviews with family, local Afghans, upper echelon leadership, etc. Just a story of one platoon and their experiences.

I can't recommend this enough. It opens July 2nd in Boston, with a sneak preview on the 1st.

Full Disclosure: I am partial to anything featuring the 173rd, as my son is currently deployed with them as an infantryman at FOB SHANK. However, I would highly support this film regardless, as it's that good.

Respects,

Gwedd, I looked at the preview of Restrepo. Looks like a powerful movie -- the kind that's tough to watch but a must-see.

The very best of luck to your son.

Thanks. It's different being the father of a serving soldier. When I was in, I was young and immortal and didn't worry about a whole lot of stuff. Now that it's MY son, and not me, there's a whole new outlook on things. I understand better how my own father felt, and his father before him.

Respects,

Sebastion Junger of "Perfect Storm" fame is the filmmaker and he financed it himself. It is suppose to be a really deep and solid film...unlike Hollywood...more gritty and true to life.
As far as Tillman is concerned I too look forward to a documentary a REAL one that the family supports...

Agreed, I sincerely hope that Hollywood never gets its hands on Pat Tillman's story. Nobody there has enough integrity to tell his actual story, so I'd rather they not get a chance to mangle it either. A small-budget documentary, where integrity of the message is valued over maximizing ticket sales, is the ideal medium IMO.
