Ian's Daily Blog - CBS Sportsline’s Pete Prisco offered up another Tom Brady contract story on Monday night, but the good news is this time around it’s to tell everyone that he doesn’t think Brady’s going anywhere. [...]

This is News ????

To be fair, this is about as relevant as Silver's article.

I've been saying that Brady won't be going anywhere because of the team's ability to use the franchise, but.............

Now that Prisco is saying that Brady's not going anywhere, I'm going to have to re-evaluate my position.

The fact that it comes from a known fool is hardly reassuring. In the immortal words of Bill Parcells "He doesn't know if a Football is blown up or stuffed"!

However, I do think that he's right...

Prisco; please. As welcoming as the perspective may be, it's hard to give credibility to an allegedly professional writer who writes a sentence like:

"The column inferred that there was a growing distance between the team and the Patriots ..."

Whaaa?

Anyway, like the Silver piece, it's just opinion, backed by anonymous opinion.

I think ultimately both sides will come together; in part because both sides have the sense to ignore the Silvers and Priscos of the world.

Exactly. It's the opposite view - and also the reason why it's probably going to also get a lot of attention.

I'm going to keep up my streak of never reading a Prisco column in the last 5 years. He's a bumbling idiot whom has less access than Silver or Peter King.

I'd be surprised if it got a fraction of the attention from other media. Doesn't meet that conflict/controversy+Patriots formula.

Well, there's also the enormous difference between source (Silver) and no source (Prisco), which Prisco himself essentially acknowledges.

Scary that it's Prisco, but even a blind squirrel...

The difference between these two articles is that one based his speculation on purported sources in the Brady camp while Prisco relied on a league source and...common sense...

Hmmm. I just re-read the Silver piece and I guess I don't see any sources, beyond piecing together previously reported bits to back an opinion. There's a vague "people close to Brady" reference, but I don't infer that these are people Silver actually talked to. Actually, Prisco quotes a fresh source -- albeit an anonymous, speculative and useless source.

So, now we have two different views of the same situation, with each view based on an identical lack of information.

Now, we get to say that one guy is "brilliant and insightful" because we happen to agree with him while the other is "dumb and obtuse" because we disagree with him.

Ah! A free press. Ain't it a great thing!

How many days 'til Training Camp?

Not really. The league 'source' is commenting in general. The Brady camp source was commenting in the specific.

It's a significant difference. Prisco has no real source. He's got someone saying the same thing that you and I could say at any moment, and without any specific personal knowledge of the situation:

"That's one of the dumbest things I've heard in a long time," one AFC general manager said. "They would let Tom Brady walk? Yeah, right."

That's not sourcing the story. That's getting commentary.

Again, please remember that I'm not commenting on the Silver story as a whole here, as I've said that I don't see the Patriots letting Brady move on even if he wants to.....

some people close to Brady feel the organization isn’t displaying much urgency toward ensuring the latter

The question of how "close" said sources are is an absolutely valid one. However, unless people are going to claim that Silver is making up those sources, they do exist for our purposes.

Agreed. Two equally valid articles. Even accepting the source as valid, a "lack of urgency" indicates nothing definitive. Both articles are speculation based on Brady's recent conduct and history with the team.

If you like the opinion, you like the particular article. Pick the historical facts you like and take the story in whatever direction you choose.

This one will not travel far because it lacks shock value.

Bingo! We have a winner!

The only reason the Silvers of the "journalism" world write the crap they do is because people will still be talking about it weeks after they produce it.

Saying that Brady will stay with the Pats doesn't feed the hoards of fans and media who would (a) love to see the Pats weakened and/or (b) are on their knees praying that Brady ends up with their teams.

this article is all about the opinion of the writer. not facts. Its nice to hear the perception is Brady will stay, however until he signs or at least hear from sources that say he will sign, this issue is far from closed. I agree with Prisco that the pats would be out of their minds to let Brady walk, but it doesn't mean he will be a patriot in 2011. The Patriots are a team first business, and even the face of the franchise is no exception. The article said that this will not be another Bledsoe scenerio for pats fans. well, the pats didn't let him walk either. he was traded for a 1st round pick!

Exactly. Prisco is a mental midgit of a journalist and always has been. I'm actually nervous now.
