Should the league extend the regular season to 18 games?

Why, so we can see the respective practice squads duking it out in the Super Bowl? Injuries play a major enough role in the 16 game format, why prolong the abuse to the players bodies? Their careers are short enough arent they? I say find a way to make the preseason games more appealing if they want to generate more revenue.

I agree. It's pretty amazing that the first 10 responses to this are no, when someone interviewed dozens of poeple, with almost 100% saying yes.

No, for reasons which have been beaten into the ground in the other thread. Season ticket holders should be given discounts and other perks on preseason games.

16 games is enough already. The league might seem like their "enhance" regular season might be a good idea, not so for the wear and tear of every player each season. The league might see it as a great investment, but it dont work that way with players getting hurt, playing hurt and health risks after their career. Scrap the 18 games, Scrap 2 preseason games, and leave it at 16 games.

Here's what is going to happen:
The players will be bought out, eventually selling their support for the 18 game format.
The league will implement it in 2012.
It will be a huge success.
Everyone who opposed it today will love it and claim they supported it all along.

Just like almost 100% of people want an 18 game season now

It's funny how people oppose the change, but at the same time they don't like the current format. In this thread, we've seen suggestions to...

"find a way to make the preseason games more appealing" (uh, ok... any ideas on how to do that exactly?)

"Season ticket holders should be given discounts and other perks on preseason games." (Not gonna happen!)

"Scrap 2 preseason games" (Not gonna happen! Well, not without the 18 game regular season that is)

I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other. 16 is fine, but 18 games wouldn't bother me. I won't complain about more football. If it starts to get any higher than that it'll be getting ridiculous.

It's funny how people try to decieve to forward their agenda.

Actually, I didn't say 100% of people, I said 100% of STHers. I would be very interested in seeing the results of the same poll but only STHers can vote. I assure you they do not like the current format.

I'm not sure what's "funny" about it. The poll isn't about what's going to happen. It's about what should happen.

Big difference

I agree. In another thread, I got some guy trying to tell everyone about some imaginary interview that never happened involving Jonathan Kraft and also how every owner in the NFL has said the same thing.

Except people clearly aren't happy with the current format, which speaks volumes as to the point I am trying to make.

You shouldn't try to speak for the group as a whole. I'm very happy with the current format. My suggestion was for the season ticket holders (who are but a portion of the "group") and a way of improving their experience. As someone who isn't a season ticket holder, the format is just fine by me.

No, it doesn't. It really doesn't.

You're equating unhappiness with one system and a specific desire for another. A lot of people who didn't like the old overtime rule don't want the new rule, because they realize that it absolutely blows, for example.

No. The 16 game format is long enough as is. No need to monkey around and try to "fix" what is perfectly fine already.

Only way this would seem plausible is if they also expanded the roster a bit. Lets say they do change 2 preseason games to reg season games, it would seem the majority of the NFLPA (being lower tier guys) would be wise to go ape****, as it gives them less time to prove/learn/etc to claim a roster spot.

Let the record show that I think this is exactly what is going to happen.

PFT has said they are talking about creating a developmental league, which might make sense.
