I am going to say that the ship has not sailed and that it will be Mankins.

Bottom line is if a team wanted him they could have had him all they would have had to do was give up draft compensation and pay the guy. Well if Mankins wants to be traded nothing has changed since he was free to find a home for said compensation.

Right now, I do believe that Mankins will be here and play out the season with the Patriots. It's in his best long-term interest to do so, and hopefully his agent or some of the other players will have speaks with him and calm him down.

If other teams had wanted him, he was available all along. Obviously, those other teams don't want to pay that price either. so Mankins' options are being reduced on a steady basis.

Unless some other team wants to pay him far more than he is worth, his two options are to play for New England, or sit out the season. If he does the latter, then he STILL will be an RFA come next year.

I just don't understand what he's trying to accomplish. He's only hurting himself at this time.

Cold-blooded, but true. Ted Larsen should be too busy learning the Center position to help at Guard, and the others - Bustey, Connelly, OBurger, Wendell & Wise - aren't worthy of being backups on the roster of any team with legit SB aspirations.

Besides, didn't Kaczur start at LT in 2005 after Light was IRed early in the season?

I think that Oxy will be OK at LG, though not as good 'n nasty as Mankin$; unfortunately, our backup quality at the interior positions (exc. for hopefully Larsen at Center) is now Jack Shyte.

I have to admit, I'm getting tired of hearing about that. There's a whole holy hell of a lot of "responsibility" to go around for "that game" and the OL and Mankins deserve their share. But singling him out is beyond ridiculous.

Brady returned from a career threatening injury last season. His line was given the job of protecting him. He took only 16 sacks on the season, less or a lot less than any elite QB but Peyton. Logan protected his blindside. Week after week.

Anybody who wants to say, "Good riddance. We're just as well off without him." Fine, it's a free country and a free Board. But, let's all agree to be accountable to each other for what we said in June on the morning of January 3rd when next season is over. Personally, I think losing Mankins is a big risk and I'm willing to stick by that and be proven right or wrong at the end of the season.

I just don't want to see the Pats move into the "Post Mankins" era without one big try at keeping him around.
