And the hits just keep on coming :D

I know

I found this part interesting:

Breer reported via Twitter that the Patriots offered about $7 million per year on a long-term deal to Mankins, which apparently wasn’t enough to get an extension done.

In a different report Mankins agent, Frank Baur, told Mike Reiss of ESPN that the main reason a deal hadn’t been reached was that the Patriots’ final offer was “20 percent lower than Jahri Evans’ deal with the Saints.” That statement goes against the amount that Breer reported Mankins was offered.

Makes you wonder what they were really looking for - and if Baur got caught in a lie or if Breer was given bad information.

Just caught this on FB. Ouch. the gloves are off.

Re: REPORT: Mankins' Contract Reduced

He made is own bed. He's a good player, I hope we get a good draft pick for him.

Re: REPORT: Mankins' Contract Reduced

This was pretty much to be expected.

Never mind that Mankins isn't as good as Jahri Evans.

7M a year for 5 years....... Gee, we really low-balled him.

What's that about $12 a penalty? :singing:

Screw his overaggressive, penalty-incurring ass. He one of the more OVER-rated Patriots there is. Our only issue is we don't have a replacement yet. That's it.

You can call Bill's character into question and live to fight another day. The Kraft's and their organization, no so much... He's lucky they can only cut his tender to 110%...

Re: REPORT: Mankins' [Tender Offer] Reduced

I like some of the comments on PFT:

"I wish my employer would disrespect me like that"

"What freaking guard turns down 7 mill a year? 7 mill for a guard! that's a $h!t ton! He can't possibly think he'll get more anywhere else."

"Eesh...I am a college graduate trying to make $35,000.00 a year."

"i could understand him turning it down if he was actually one of the top 5 guards in the league..."

"Had your chance buddy, and now you're playing for crumbs. I wish someone would "slap me in the face" an offer me $7M."

Re: REPORT: Mankins' Contract Reduced

Didnt take long for the crowd to turn in him huh? I agree the 7 mil/yr seems pretty damn reasonable (top 5 an insult, really?), but business is business and he's looking to max out his contract. Unfortunately he has 0 leverage aside from sitting out a season, or most of one. Hate on him for being a dumb ass with negotiations, but he was still probably the best lineman out there for us last year.

Yeah, but the guy really ought to look at a little tape. He committed A SH!T TON of costly penalties over his time here. Seriously, I like him and all, but the Pats are in the right............. They made this guy a very fair offer, and he's telling them to screw, like he's being disrespected.

Let's face it. He wasn't offered "Jahri Evans" money because, quite frankly, he ain't as good as Jahri Evans. A lot of us may not watch Saint's ball, so it may come as a surprise, but the fact remains, they both have great skills but Evans less baggage (i.e. Penalty issues).

Don't get me wrong. Mankins is a beast, but he's prone to over-aggressivless that has cost us at big spots. Plus, if he was really the "elite" gaurd everyone say's he is, we might has a 19-0 season under our belt. Let's face facts, he (and the rest of the line), got STEAMROLLED in the biggest spot of their careers. Yeah, I still remember.

7M for 5... yeah, I'm okay with that cuz he is solid Gaurd and one of the better in the league, but 8M over the same time, no effing way.

Let him go, we have depth. We need Vollmer playing at tackle, move Kazur LG and let him battle it out. Lets face it we couldn't run the ball for two years now, it has more to do with the offense line then our backs. Let him go, 7 million a year can be better spent IMO.

Wait..... the Patriots have guard depth? Who'd they sign today while nobody was paying attention?

I can see him not being happy with $7 million a year with Evans getting over $8 million, but his reaction is a way overraction if that is what the Pats offered. He is definitely going to lose the PR battle for this.

That's too bad. The Pats were willing to spend but he turns out to want the world.

His reaction is way over-the-top & I don't feel sorry for him.

I think everyone here is overreacting. There is still plenty of time to hammer out a contract. Mankins wants as much as he can get and the Pats want him for a little as possible. They'll find a middle ground.

everyone overreacting? really? did you not hear what mankins said? how can he honestly say something like that and expect to come to happy terms with the team and walk back in the locker room with his head held high. as far as im concerned the only option right now is a trade
