Herald: Mankins is in the Foxboro area

That's good news at the very least. Today and tomorrow are big days for him. Personally, I can't see him not signing the tender.

"The offensive lineman did not want to comment on his current contract dispute with the Patriots, whether he planned on signing the one-year tender offer that’s on the table by tonight’s midnight deadline or risk having that offer dramatically reduced. But Mankins indicated he would make his intentions known later today."

I think it's fair to say the outlook remains garded.

Fixed that for you. Somehow though I don't see him coming here to make a FU announcement. He coulda done that comfortably from the ranch...

He has to sign the tender. He never seriously intended to hold out into the season, none of them do, so all not signing it gains him going forward is another 4 weeks to holdout (beyond the August 13th deadline he'd face if he did sign) at a cost of $2M... And actually signing it and reporting for mandatory OTA's might buy him a little consideration from a FO and ownership that remains intent on only investing heavily in leaders as well as talents.

This. The fact he's here is a positive sign.

Good to hear. The sooner we get rid of all of our headaches, the sooner we can laugh about the Jets' :D

It is in fact very good news, but good sir please, it in no way affects our ability, nay, our DUTY, to mock the Jets at all times.

There is a reason for him to be here other than signing the tender and playing on a one year deal.

He could be here just in case he gets his long term contract worked out and if it does than he needs to report 2moro.

I think him being in the area seems like a good sign but IMO it doesn't seem to crazy to think that the long term deal if it has been worked on breaks down and he heads home to continue his hold out and was only here in in case it got finished.

I am kind of playing devils advocate here as I think him being in the area is a good sign but I think the comments in the thread are making it out like there is no other possibility (maybe I am projecting)

He's been here for two weeks but according to all sources including guys like Reiss there has been little or no progress on a long term deal beyond the initial offer the Pats placed on the table within the last several weeks which his side has characterized as disappointing. Given his fairly terse comments today a breakthrough contract announcement would be the unliklier scenario to signing his tender. The least likely scenario would be he traveled 3000 miles and hung around on the fringes for the last two weeks just to prove he's so pissed he not only can't see straight but he also can't think straight...

Concur. He's probably gonna sign, then vent a bit at the situation. I do hope he gets that long term deal and sticks around for awhile. He's a good football player, and he knows the system.

I said I thought it was most likely that he was hear to report to mini camp regardless of contract situation but I think since your comments above hinge on media reports that it is not that far fetched to think that they have been working on a deal and that he is here in hopes it gets finished and if it doesn't he may still continue his hold out.

and since he has been very quiet about this I am not sure why you have to make it like he can't think straight and is being an idiot the guy is not under contract so it his choice if he wants to sign or not.

Logan Mankins: "I want to be traded. I don’t need to be here any more.”

Just spoke with Logan Mankins. He said he does plan to sign his restricted free agent tender. Writing up a story now for ESPNBoston.com.

Logan Mankins: "This is about principle with me and keeping your word and how you treat people."

Fine, trade him for another LB or a center. Would love to keep him, but it's not the end of the world.

Is that real????

OR is JohnVM just messing with us???????

He's only planning to sign his tender so he can be traded.
