Tom Brady talk around the media

Besides, if we let him go, Bradyfan_75 will commit suicide.

Ok, here's a basic scenario:

I'm on record as expecting Brady back one way or another, because I think the teams will want some way to keep the tag at least for the first year or two of a new CBA, but here's a what if....

New CBA, without franchise tags.....

Now, would it take 5 seconds, or 0.5 seconds, for the Raiders and/or 49ers to contact Brady's agent with an insane offer in an attempt to upgrade their QB positions?

Given that Gisele "wears the pants" financially speaking, somehow I don't think money alone would be enough to get Brady out of Foxboro.

JEbus is no one listening Avoid the MBWC or you'll never survive i am grateful to people like Ian, Kontra among other that keep this place the most Sane place left in the "media" world.

the premise of this thread is so ridiculous, why even bother responding ? i'm asking myself the same thing. :bricks:

Is this officially now the worst thread of the offseason? Or is it still just de facto?

But the talk's heating up, broseph!!

Kraft, BB and Brady seem to have a great relationship and understanding and I don't think any one of them sees another not being involved with the Patriots until they retire.

I think everyone needs to calm down. Paying a guy a ton of money isn't as easy as everyone makes it out to be, and they're going to find a way to get it done. However it's going to have to be on their terms - and it's going to have to fit the pay structure that allows other deals to get done.

Look at the Colts. We've already heard how the GM is going to make Manning the highest paid QB in the league and how gung-ho they were to get it done, but it's been over a month and Manning is still sitting there without a contract with no signs of it happening in the near future.

I hate to say it, but the fact there is no CBA is a bigger deal than people realize - especially when it comes to these larger contracts. In case no one has noticed there's not a lot of them being done right now, and everyone is going to need to be patient before you decide to start looking at the worst case scenarios.

Needless to say let's try and keep this all in perspective. As I recall the last deal he got came out of no where, so let's not let speculation in the media fuel a lot of conversations that are going to lead to comments many of you could end up regret making when this is finally resolved.

Agreed. This is a complex negotiation with a lot of money on the table for both parties, not to mention how Kraft's franchise performs for the next five or so years, if not longer.

It was unreasonable to have expected Brady to take more than a small discount to stay with the Pats. Now both sides are trying to figure out how to make him one of the top or three QB's salary wise at the same time as the team protects its cap downsides. So, I don't know what all the surprise is that this is taking a while and is, perhaps, even a bit contentious at times.

I agree with your comment 100%. I always said as much as i like BB, Brady is the reason Im a die hard fan. I was always "a fan" But when Brady took over, he became the reason I live and die for this team. If Brady went some place else to finish his career I would follow him to that said team and become a fan just because I idolize TB12. When he retires I may never be a die hard for this team again. He just came and changed New England and made us proud to be a Pat's fan. Im a Brady fan 1st and a Pats fan 2nd.

Thanks for your honesty. I wonder though if "winning" actually "became the reason [you] live and die for this team." But, at least you're honest and don't claim to be a true Pats fan.

Yeah, what a ridiculous thing to worry about whether or not the best quarterback to come down the pike since 1980 is going to be playing for our team next year. Let's all go back to talking about Logan Mankins' contract status and who we should draft in the 5th round!

See, this is the idea that scares the living crap out of me. I think Gisele does indeed "wear the pants" in that marriage. And what would you think she thinks about her husband's career? You think she wants him to stay in New England? Or move out west?

If you seriously beleive he would jsut say "well the wife is making me leave the team that took the risk and help make me what i am today so i am just going to go" I'll sell you some nice ocen front proptery in kansas

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It's dangerous to project your own inadequacies and phobias onto another person, especially when devoid of factual underpinnings.

I think one thing to debunk that theory is that there's not one team with the exception of possibly San Diego that has enough talent on that team to give him a chance to win in the next 3-5 years (likely his remaining shelf-life) so one would have to believe that he'd feel that there's no point in him leaving here for the sake of "moving west" only to put himself in a potentially bad situation. He's not stupid, and he knows the coaches along with the majority of personnel put him in a position each year to win it all, and that's doubtful he'd get that chance as quickly in the final few years of his career.

Winning makes coming to work each day a little easier - and I'm sure that's going to be as much of a factor as the size of the contract he gets. Granted they're going to have to give him a fair deal, but the relationships he's spent the last decade building along with winning are a couple of big reasons why he's not just going to up and decide to move west.

Needless to say as I've mentioned I honestly believe they'll get a deal done eventually.

I'll root for the laundry. I've been doing it since '73. If Brady leaves (and he won't) he'd be dead to me, same way Vinatraitor is.

Yep. I would certainly like to see Tom finish his career in NE...but whatever happens, happens. Moving on.

You have absolutely no idea what goes on in the Brady household on any given day to make assumptions on who wears the pants. None.

Someday you may learn that what grown ups do when they make career decisions is they factor in what is best for themselves and their family. What do you think is going to happen? You think Tom is going to thump his chest and lay down the law for Gisele? No. What is going to happen is they are going to talk about what is best for them, their child and their future. Anyone who doesn't think she is going to have some serious sway on his decision is just clueless.

He has a wife and child based out west AND another child with another woman out there too. You people who refuse to accept this as a possibility are blind. I give it a 67% chance he stays, 33% chance he leaves.

Ya know, when I make important career decisions that will affect me, my wife, our entire lives together, and any potential children we may have, I actually listen to and respect her opinion and realize it is a decision we will make together, not one I will make unilaterally.

To you, that somehow makes me inadequate. To the rest of the world, that's called being a good husband and father. Maybe someday you'll grow up and have a family and stop being so selfish. But I doubt it.

Tom Brady inherited a team that was 5-13 over their past 18 games and turned them into a dynasty. So it's silly to suggest that he would be afraid to go to any team which may not seem so great right now.
Winning makes coming to work each day a little easier - and I'm sure that's going to be as much of a factor as the size of the contract he gets.
Another thing that makes going to work easier is knowing every night you can go home to your wife and family, instead of having them all constantly on the move or a continent away.

You people need to stop drinking the kool aid and look at it from Brady's point of view.
