The World Cup kicks off in 15mins, with the home nation taking on Mexico.
Arizona should grind to a halt for a couple of hours as the locals watch their team playing. :D

But in the UK, all thoughts turn towards the game tomorrow night as England take on the United States in the town of Rustenburg.
A defeat in the first game for either team means an uphill struggle to qualify for the next round.
I've given this game a lot of thought, and have decided that I'll support the U.S.A.
No offence to my Southern British Patriot brothers btw. ;)

Go Eagles!!!

Just heard AFN finally got the rights to show the WC!! Go AMERICA!!!!

All hinges on Rooney. So long as he stays calm, doesn't rise to any bait, and uses his head, I think England should win comfortably. Gerrard being the captain should help, he's close friends with Shrek, and if anyone can get into his ear it's him.

England have so much more than Rooney, it's just getting them to that point. World class midfield playmakers like Stevie and Lampard, two rampaging full backs and intelligent and pacey wide men. 4-3-3/4-5-1 is the way to go for us but I doubt we will until Barry returns, if at all.

Non taken CD, I saw quite a few Scots flying out to SA supporting England. Scottish football really must be bad :p

Not surprised about some Scots supporting England.
I could go into it in detail, but it's far too boring and life's too short!
You should ask your hun boss about it when you get a moment. They all come from that rotten mob he follows. Before supporting England, they supported Northern Ireland, Holland and anyone who played the Republic of Ireland.
Happy to say that I'll be watching the game at work tomorrow night with a few decent hun workmates who haven't went over to the darkside yet! :D

C'mon the Eagles!!

We should comfortably win, on paper. But i think we will be quite nervy, struggle to create much and USA will be difficult to break down. I see a scrappy 1-0 for England, Rooney to score.

He wishes he was my boss! He's supporting the U.S. too and couldn't wait to tell the world :D

FIFA confirming that they expect that there will be more Yank supporters in the stadium than there will be English supporters!

Must have been a long couple of seconds! ;)

And no offence taken!

Football is all about loyalties and rivalries. When it becomes about hatred, fanaticism, sectarianism, nationalism, though ... Well, I'm out of there.

I was in Berlin for the European Championships and Turkey played Germany. In advance, there was all of this talk in the media that there would be riots, violence (the U.S. Embassy -- brave as always -- warned U.S. citizens to stay off the streets). Anyway, in the event, the Germans won and there was NO trouble. I talked to a young Turkish guy the next morning and he told me he'd watched the game with his Turkish buddies in Kreuzberg (immigrant quarter) and then, when the game was over, they all went into the city centre to join the partying.

When we can have an England-Scotland game like that (or Rangers-Celtic!) I'll think about going to football again.

Draw is a great result for US

Yes, and they've hung in there well so far. They're a well coached side, as expected, and they have obviously worked hard on their setpieces -- freekicks and corners. Mind you, they can't have counted on facing a goalkeeper with suicidal tendencies ...

Half Time
USA 1-1 England

A fair result so far as far as I'm concerned. :D
USA certainly not intimidated by their loftier rivals.

If I was Bob Bradley, I'd tell the players to get every cross in that they can.
Green will be crapping it anytime the ball goes near him.

Is Rooney playing? ;)

Time to hang on and for the US maybe a little luck. ;)

Couple of things. First, what the HELL is that horn in the background? Secondly how does one tell how much time is left in the game? It just keeps increasing.

Horn is big in S Africa with their fans, at 90:00 min game ends, usually a couple of minutes are added on for stoppage time.
