Does Clayton have any potential? I've never heard of him. Also, not surprised at all about the cuts.

Which means there will have to be three cuts by the time all the rookies are signed, which will probably be the last week of July, which is seven weeks away.

My top candidates: Bryan Anderson, Darnell Jenkins, Amon Gordon

If I had listened to PFW in Progress earlier and heard how badly King was looking at OTAs, I would have chosen him instead of Jenkins...

But 2/3 ain't bad. :)

Clayton was a top recruit coming out of high school, seems to be followed by off the field issues. Has good size and looks the part, we'll see what he can do.

Thomas Clayton | Kansas State, RB : 2007 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

Was placed on injured reserve after tearing ACL in preseason last yr, placed on IR.

03/04/10 - RB Thomas Clayton will be given an opportunity to find the best place to hook on with a team after returning from ACL surgery. The 49ers did not tender him as an exclusive-rights free agent, but they are open to re-signing him later in the offseason.

I'm sure I just heard on PFW in Progress that Bryan Anderson was starting to click, nevermind :)

Any chance you think he'll make the 53-man?

I watched Clayton in the preseason a couple years ago. Hard runner, with an occasional bit of wiggle. I think he's a younger version of Sammy. We'll see if he catches on--if so, it's at the expense of an older guy, I would imagine.

Very disappointed Anderson was released.

I looked up Clayton's pre-season stats. In 2008 he carried 42 times for 186 yards (4.4 avg.) and 1 TD. he also had 7 catches for 52 yards (7.4 avg.) He had 81 yards in the third preseason game, which is usually the game starters play the longest. No fumbles in 4 games.

In 2007 he carried 45 times for 200 yards (4.4 avg.) and 1 TD. He also caught 2 passes for 14 yards. No fumbles.

So, he has been very productive in two pre-seasons.

Hopefully he can make the practice squad.

The odds of his being released today and making the PS are, umm, not good. :(

OTOH, all hail Zoltan, Space Emperor (of Space)!

Yeah, like practice squads are usually filled with guys who were cut in June...

I had hoped Anderson would catch on...BUT from all heard he did not look good in mini camp a month ago..THEY DO need a tall receiver..but..not him..Teal?? Was that REALLY a surprise?? Just could not hack it..King?? An experiment a LONG way away....Good to get a young RB to add in to compete...

I think it's slim and none..and I was optimistic until the mini camp..seemed like he was not making the catches...soo??? not surprised...I DO think this PSquad will be strong...too many solid players out there..

The Pats are probably just trying to restructure their contracts ala TBC. I expect all of them to be back and make significant impacts on the field in 2010.

Word up is that unknown WR Jenkins has impressed. Dangerous place Anderson being on the wrong side of the bell curve in 2010s strong young WR competition.

This biggest red flag on Clayton is that he has issues with authority and his work ethic is lousy.. Hopefully that's changed since 2007.. If not, his stint with the Pats will be short-lived.
