Kraft on 'complicated' Brady talks - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

By Mike Reiss

Patriots owner Robert Kraft was a guest on Sirius NFL Radio today, answering questions from co-hosts Adam Schein and Jim Miller.

Here was part of the Q&A when Kraft was asked about quarterback Tom Brady:

What is the latest with Tom Brady and his contractual situation? Have you set a deadline, or have his agents set a deadline, for when you want to get a deal done? “Well, look, we are so lucky to have Tom Brady. He’s under contract. He’s here. I’m privileged to have a pretty special relationship with him. I think he knows how I feel about him. I think we both want to solve the problem; or the issue. I don’t know that it’s a problem. It’s complicated. But we have basically have had a policy that we keep all those conversations between the principals. So it’s not something we’re going to discuss in the media. But we’re very lucky to have him here.”

Sounds positive to me. Only Brady, Kraft, probably Belichick, and a select few others know the real deal. Everyone else has a hazy AT BEST knowledge/understanding of the situation.

"I have a pony, and it likes carrots." would have sufficed to give the same level of new and pertinent information about the contract situation.

If Tom Brady doesn't retire a Patriot I will let Rex Ryan fart in my mouth.

You better check with the EPA beforehand. They wanna regulate greenhouse gasses now.

Heh. To be fair, though, this team is pretty tight lipped regarding just about everything. I wasn't expecting an orgy of information when clicking on this thread, myself.

As opposed to Irsay and Polian who contradicted each other, one saying we will get it done asap and the other when the labor situation is resolved. They both said the same thing Kraft said that a deal will eventually get done.

Irsay hopes to extend Manning's Colts stay with NFL-best deal
"With one year to go, even having the franchise tag and all that sort of thing, we'd like to get something done, sooner than later," Irsay said, according to The Associated Press. "So once the season ends, we're going to be talking about that and hopefully getting something done before next season begins. It's something that's going to get done, so honestly, those aren't the ones you worry about."

BostonHerald.com - Blogs: Rap Sheet Blog Archive Polian, on QB deals: “When (the labor situation) is resolved, those other situations will resolve themselves.”
“Everybody’s in the same boat,” Polian said. “Players are in the same boat, clubs are in the same boat. None of us know what’s involved and what the system will be like going forward. When that’s resolved, those other situations will resolve themselves.”

True. So, we wait…

Irsay and Polian didn't contradict one another, and my comment wasn't intended as a dig at anyone in the NFL. Kraft simply didn't say anything of value with regards to the contract status, making that a useless blog post.

If they hadn't written a blog post, then everyone would be asking them what Kraft talked about in his interview. People want to know what these guys have to say. It's as simple as that.

"Asked about Brady's contract, Kraft essentially said nothing."

Could have been a tweet. It's as simple as that.

As compared to the dozens of separate post topics all identical in fact less, but uniformly negative themed speculation about Brady & the Pats as every mediot fights to get page hits???

Did anyone actually expect the Patriots and Brady to have public negotiations? No, of course not.

I'm confident they will get a deal done that will allow Brady to retire a Patriot, and I'd expect that contract to make him the highest paid player in the game, at least for a little while. He deserves it, and I get the feeling he won't be taking another undervalued contract just to be a nice guy again (and he shouldn't).

Just my opinion.

The "speculation" you're complaining about is based upon an alleged source close to Brady. That's something. It's also irrelevant to my posts.

The response of Kraft's gave us nothing. There's nothing wrong with that, but it was a waste of a blog entry.

This is really a waste of time. There is what a 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance that the Pats don't resign Brady and I may be understating the chances so the Negative Nancy's can't call me a homer on this issue.

Seriously, is there anyone who truly belives Brady won't be playing for the Patriots after this season that aren't under the dillusion that there will be an NFL team in Los Angeles in 2011?

I wouldn't be saying that if I was you. There is still a decent chance that when Brady hits his late 30s or early 40s and he wants to continue to play that the Patriots may decide to move on like the Packers did with Brett Favre.

Several separate post topics. All based on one unverified alleged close to Brady source. In contrast, we have the facts...

1. Kraft's repeated positive statements on the matter

2. The predominant history of the Pats not going public on these matters

3. The unprecidented situation of CBA uncertainties to say the least, injecting major business uncertainty

4. Similar situations q.v. the Colts where management is retreating from prior bullish statements about extending their future HOF QB

Where did any of these mediots addd any facts or insight instead of vomiting their oh so predictable anti-Pats sentiment into print and suckering folks into starting seperate threads all with ZERO additional factual content?

I rest my case.

What's even worse is that Rex's fart's will be REALLY bad by then.

Actually if there is a disconnect in communications it's between Irsay and Polian, who essentially said the other day that contracts are handled between him and Condon...and they will get together when they get together and it may be next season before they get a deal done (which wouldn't be surprising since they tagged Peyton in March of 2004 before getting his present deal done).

All Kraft and Belichick keep saying is it is what it is because of the CBA and there is no other QB they would rather have... Alas, too simple a response for all the conspiracy theorists in the media. Obvious disconnect.
