I have been away for a week or so and just yesterday I talked to an acquaintance who is from NY who heard a report that Bruschi might be named as a defensive coach. THAT was teh first I heard of it and searching the archives I found no mention of this rumor and or any speculation of this.
To me, I think Tedy is happy as an analyst and is getting used to his place there. A defensive coach?? Maybe some day...not now.
Was this something that people have heard of?? Or really quite off the mark...

First I've heard of it, but it is now officially a rumor. :)

They apparently heard this about a week ago and being away...I just heard of it, searched the archives and wondered..it seems a bit far fetched..but I had to ask..I didn't WANT to start a rumor ONLY see if it was really one or something quite out there..

Pretty sure its a rumour. And a poor one at that. Bruschi at this moment in time is sitting in his suit getting paid lots of dollars for doing very little by ESPN.

I'd love to see it, but coaching would take him away from his kids a lot. Still, maybe he misses the stimulation and competition he's not getting in his media gig.

Don't see why he wouldn't coach, this is a man who loved the game and the game always draws you back if you love it.

Definitly a slow week and we are coming into the dead period till training camp.. So I guess we can talk rumors..

Re: Is this a.true rumor...Bruschi might be a defensive coach???

why would he enter coaching as a assitant. He has not coached so he has to spend the next few hrs logging some insane hours away from family and with his health and financial situation i am sure i do not see this.

He can have a espn job for now and in a few years move to local sport media as a patriot expert and enjoy life.

also, i read his book where the first few paycheck he brought his home incase he gets cut after year 1. trust me he is financially well invested and needs no headache.

Football can take years off your life, that is sure, but if you're referring to his stroke, the mechanism that apparently caused it was closed off just after he had it, so he's at no more risk than you or I of having one.

Also his knees which in the last couple of years were damaged a bit.He was ILB and got banged around quite a bit.you cannot ask him to sit at a desk for 10-14hrs a day watching film and coming up with defensive plans or running around in OTA with players all day .

coaching is harder than playing in the time department. He will have to work monday , tuesday to game plann and spend long hours preparing , so he can have stuff for wednesday , when the players showup. He then has to spend rest of week to implement and work through sunday . Then start over on monday.

If you tell me he is going to be the football coach for north attleboro [ he lives here ] highschool team i say he might do it.

From what I remember he said he'd love to coach someday but not in the NFL.

Unless it's a very limited coaching schedule - more like a consultant - I don't see it happening.

Assistant coaches are often there before the players get there and stay after they leave.

If anything he'd see his kids less than when he was playing.

He strikes as the sort of guy who'll take a light workload and chill with his family rather than working hard for less money -- especially at this point in his life.

When he starts feeling a more gnawing need to return to the competition, it could be another story. But not yet.

Bruschi was one of those football fantatics that this rosther used to be full of. He loved the game and the Patriots as much as you or I on this board, difference being he had the ability to excel for them. I think after one more year of sitting on his ass, he's going to get the fire back and end up somwhere. I would be intrigued to see what he'd offer as a coach. He played for a coach that was all about win or go home, asbolutely nothing else. I think its engraved in him now.

More than a year. He's also a real family guy, with kids growing up. And can probably make MORE money in the media than in coaching, and he can use the money -- he doesn't NEED it, but it's also not as if he's already made all the money that he can envision spending for the entire rest of his life.

Can see him coming in as a special mentor/coach.. but not something full time that would take away from what is probably a lucrative ESPN gig and his family.

I would love to see either Tedy or Zach Thomas brought in as a LB's coach.

Yup, talking on TV must be like being in a Florida nursing home for Bruschi.

As a player, he was undersized, but very smart and Id love to see him as a NE D coach

Is this a true rumor...
Depending on what your definition of rumor is I'll go ahead and say yes.
