Today in the store waiting for some meds I was flipping through the athleon (sp) "preview" and they picked to finish 3rd in the divison and not even make the playoffs. I know it doesn't matter at all I just wanted to share what I saw.

Good. The more underdog karma the better.

Have people forgotten that the more underestimated the Patriots are the better they seem to play?

+1 Amen to that. Only thing better is if we ranked under Detroit and the Rams. The more they underestimate, the sweeter it is when were in the playoffs.

Meh ... this publication is neither the first nor will they be the last to make this prediction. The only thing many in the media seemed to have noticed with certain teams is their additions (Marshall in Miami; Holmes, Tomlinson and Cromartie for the Jets) while ignoring the roster losses, and about the only comment made about the Pats is their playoff loss.

Don't worry about preseason predictions; you'll give yourself a stroke if you do. How many times over the last decade were the Redskins supposed to win it all? Last year the consensus was either the Pats or Steelers would win the Super Bowl while the Titans would take the AFC South and the Colts would miss the playoffs; how did that work out? Look at how many had the Saints winning it all in '07 after their playoff run the previous season, only to see them go 7-9 - and then had them missing the playoffs and watching Atlanta win the NFC South last year.

No point in getting worked up over preseason predictions, or who somebody with a column, website or magazine is "disrespecting" the Pats.

The analysis of the publication is not much different from much of the analysis of some posters here who say that the jets and phins have iumproved while the patriots have not improved (or nowhere as much).

To me this just represents "lazy, unimaginative thinking". The Jets this, the Fins that. Summertime champs usually turn into fall/winter chumps.

Lol, who picked the Redskins to win it all?

It goes the other way too. Most had the Pats winning in 07, they came pretty close. Same for 06, i remember the Steelers-Hawks SB they couldn't stop saying how great the Pats would be next year.

It's okay for you to not like people doing this before the season, it should just go both ways, if they say the Pats will win the SB you should be like "Meh... whatever". :)

I'm not sure what the big deal is, or why this is surprising to people. It's still only May, the Jets and Dolphins made bigger name additions, and the Patriots suffered the biggest losses (Until his return, Welker will be the biggest loss of all, for example).

After reading this i hope they were good drugs you were picking up :p

With the Phins having lost both starting OLBs in Taylor and Porter, I have a hard time seeing them finishing ahead of the Pats.

Yes, I know they signed Dansby, but they signed him to play ILB. But, really, their LB corp is going to be a week point as is their safeties..

Absolutely ........................ :yeahthat:

These preseason publications are for entertainment purposes only. Every year you can review all the preseason publications and media predictions after the season is over and laugh on how wrong they got everything,.

Last year, the Bears were a trendy pick because they got Cutler and they didn't come close to the playoffs. This year, the Jets and Dolphins are trendy picks for similiar reasons. They could live up to the hype or show that hype was all their pick ups really were.

I fully prepared for a lot of preseason pubs to have the Pats ranked 3rd in the division. Not really going to bother me.

I can make attention grabbing posts as well. Let me predict how things are going to go in the NFC North...

The Packers will finish first while the Lions, with their defense being boosted by Suh, will win the Wild Card. The Vikings will finish third and the Bears will finish last.

You can put as much behind the above post as you can this article.

Everyone knows that the amount of big named FA is the way to win a SB. Just ask the Redskins fans.;)

The Jets and Dolphins both have some serious talent and potential, as do the Patriots. What the writers of this preview are neglecting the importance of the QB position. The Jets are a championship team if Sanchez makes the jump as a QB, they are a .500 team if he doesn't. Miami's ceiling and floor are both lower with Henne as QB.

In this age of the game, the teams with the great QBs should always be favored. A look at the real Super Bowl contenders should start with New Orleans, New England, Indy, San Diego Green Bay and Minnesota with Baltimore, Atlanta, Tennessee and Dallas as sleepers.

You can still get into the Play-Offs as a wild card from 3rd. Wouldnt bother me in the slightest.

But the Jets are so poor on the left hand side of the O line... Sanchez will be out for the season by wk5. And as rightly said, people are going to run all over Miami through the middle.

I'm glad I'm being given early warning to not wake up at 2AM to watch the Patriots games live this season. Saves me a heap of sleep knowing the Patriots are 3rd in the division.
