Randy Moss drops longtime agent, plans to go rest of career without one

I'm jumping right on board the Moss will serve as his own agent bandwagon.

I'll also jump on the if anything he will hire someone or a company
to help him in the PR department as he prepares for life beyond the NFL.

Moss is a smart guy, he knows he's just about at the end
but I bet he also realizes he can make a ton more money if he is marketed correctly in other areas.

I don't think it makes sense to re-sign him, he knows this, and is going to have a great season with us for a big pay day (with someone else). Nothing wrong with this, nothing personal on either side, just business as usual.

I want Moss to retire a Patriot. I hope this is a good sign for that but I'm not sure what to think. Maybe if he ends up representing himself then there's a chance. If he hires another agent than it means he wants to get the best deal he can while he can, I guess.

next year he'll be 34 --- will there be a long line of suitors throwing big money at a 34 yr old receiver on a long term deal?
he already took a big money offer to play in oakland --- think he'll make a mistake like that again?
it sounds to me like belichick wants the guy here, the main question is if he wants to be here.
I doubt he jumps ship over a couple nickels difference in offers to play for the redskins, or whoever.

with all the young guys the pats are bringing aboard they should have the financial room for him on a couple year deal if there's football in 2011.
if there isn't, he'll be 35.......

Don't want to infer too much from this, but my first instinct is this is good news for the pats. Sounds like Moss wants one more big deal and doesn't want to give up a percentage. That would lead me to believe he re-signs with NE (pending how he looks this season) on a one or two year deal.

If he's looking for a big deal, then that isn't good news for either Moss or the Pats. At 34, he's unlikely to get a big contract from us like the one he signed in 2007.

This is what I forecast. I mentioned this before, and releasing his agent is suggestive that at this point in his career, Moss is not looking for leverage. It is my belief that as long as he receives a respectable offer, he will be in NE.

Where else would he go? His current owner and coach have never thrown him under the bus, and have defended him well.. e.g., "taking plays off." And he is playing with one of the game's best quarterback.

And he hasn't won a superbowl. You have to think this has to weigh on his mind in some way.

more be a person who will market him outside of the game itself.

He doesn't need a football agent ... he can do that himself.

I don't think Moss is playing for a new deal here. I don't think Moss really cares about money or security of a contract. Moss is only playing for a ring, and I think Moss really doubts that he will be able to get that here.

Brett Favre loves him (and he loves Favre) and the Vikings are loaded. No-one would dare throw Moss under the bus with Favre on the team.

I am a little concerned about this. Things go on in negotiations that are much better for an agent to hear than a player. I could easily see this become personal when the Patriots say something in negotiations that Randy sees as a slight to his abilities.

I also am skeptical that Randy will take significantly less money in 2011 and beyond in order to try to win a ring in New England. I think most players view the amount of their contract as a sign of how much the organization respects them. I could see Randy taking less than market value again, but I am not sure I see him signing say a 2 year deal for 10 million total.

I think the 2 largest factors on if Moss stays here are how far we go in the playoffs and how he and Brady click together this year. If they continue to be gold together and they can translate it to a deep playoff run, I don't see why he wouldn't feel confident that he could get his ring here in the next few years. I'd like to see him get a 3 year deal with us.
