Re: Prsco: Overrated and Underrated

Underrated: CB Leigh Bodden. They signed him to a one-year deal last season and he responded with five picks and a good season. They re-signed him to another one-year deal.
Classic Prisco

4years $14 million I thought

I wonder if that disqualifies him from being underrated?

... or is he confusing him with Burgess?

Prisco is an idiot.

Re: Prsco: Overrated and Underrated

Ben Watson is the over-rated player on a team he hasn't even played for :)

Oh Dear.

Re: Prsco: Overrated and Underrated

The way people trash Light and overstate his problems with speed rushers (it is a problem for him, but not nearly as bad as people make it), I don't know how he is overrated. It seems that half the people on this board wanted him cut or moved to RT or guard.

Re: Prsco: Overrated and Underrated

It's Prisco, so it's useless.

Re: Prsco: Overrated and Underrated

I read somewhere last season (think it may have been Football Outsiders) that your chance of winning goes up a preposterous amount every time you add +1 to your turnover differential. Something like 15-20%. That is HUGE. Asante generates interceptions. Big ones, especially in the playoffs. We all know that. HOWEVER he needs good safety play behind him to clean up some of the messes he makes (something the Eagles didn't have last year). If you have someone behind him that can staunch the bleeding from one of his failed gambles to a 35 yard gain rather than 6 points it's kind of worth it. The bad tackling is a little more annoying. You can thank Deion Sanders for that. "Business decision". Him not wanting to play press is simply him wanting to do what he does best. You can't jump routes if you don't have a cushion to work with and you can't sneak looks at the QB if you're trying to keep your hands on your guy.

All that being said I'd still rather have him on the Pats than not (although not at the $ that the Eagles gave him). There was a play last year where he jumped someone else's receiver's route. Just broke off the deep route and jumped one of the underneath routes.

However, I will never forgive him for dropping the game sealer in the SB.

I stopped reading after he said Bruce Springsteen is overrated.

If we'd have signed Leigh Bodden to a 4 yr/14 million dollar deal I'd be pretty surprised, considering he turned down our initial offer of 4 yrs/16 million when he signed his 1 yr deal last year.

FWIW--most here thought it would take about 6-7 million per yr to re-sign him, I believe we got somewhat of a bargain at 5.5 million.

The contract was worth 4 yrs at 22 million, or 5.5 per year.

On another note, Prisco called Troy Polamalu overrated in the same column.

Breathing is overrated! ;)

Prisco is still being paid to write? Then he continues to be overrated.

The idiocy that is Prisco...
My most overrated player is New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs. Even after 1,000-yard seasons in 2007 and 2008, I thought he was a bit overrated. People became enamored with his size since he is huge for a back at 6-feet-4 and 265 pounds.

But I think his size hurts him. He doesn't make tacklers miss. If there is no hole, he isn't cutting to find one. He runs straight ahead and upright, not my style of back.

Jacobs gained 3.7 yards per rush last season and wound up with 835 yards. He seemed to tiptoe into the line. His touchdown total dropped from 15 to six. Some of it might have been the result of a knee issue that required scoping after the season, but I think the Giants offense is significantly better when Ahmad Bradshaw, all 5-9 of him, is in the backfield.

So Jacobs is overrated because you like little running backs? Sorry, I'll read that again.

So is Jacobs supposed to get a height and weight reduction?

I guess that makes Earl Campbell overrated compared to Barry Sanders?

But I think his size hurts him. He doesn't make tacklers miss.

Yeah, I bet there were lots of 180 lb cornerbacks going, "I've got you right where i want you. I dare you to run right over me and leave cleat marks on my face.

Sure, if he's favoring a knee injury, he might be ineffective, but that's not overrated.

To be fair to Prisco, his analysis of Jacobs has some weight. He was pretty ineffective last season and there's a reason big backs don't last very long.

But seriously, Troy Polamalu? That defense had a completely different identity when he was injured. Clark and Gay don't scare anyone, but Polamalu does.

Overrated: Pete Prisco

Underrated: The true extent to which the jets are overrated.

To be fair to Prisco, his analysis of Jacobs has some weight. He was pretty ineffective last season and there's a reason big backs don't last very long.

So you're in favor of the height and weight reduction?

On another note, offensive linemen are overrated. Sure, they can block, but all they do is stand in front of the quarterback. I like players that can run and throw the ball.

Until a lineman can complete 60% of passes, or run for a hundred yards, they're just big fat guys that grunt a lot.[/prisco]
